Buttigieg Gets Crushed for Claiming Fighting Climate Change Is ‘Perhaps Even More Challenging’ Than WWII

2020 Democratic presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg is finding himself in hot water after he compared fighting climate change to World War II.

“The fundamental question is, how are we actually going to get it done?” Buttigieg asked during Wednesday’s CNN climate change town hall, adding, “Because we’ve been having the same conversation for years.”

Buttigieg — a former U.S. Naval Reserve lieutenant — continued to suggest that combating climate change will require unifying Americans, as it could “perhaps even maybe more challenging” than fighting and winning in WWII:

“In order for that to happen, we have to actually unify the country around this project. And that means bringing people to the table who haven’t felt they have been part of the process. I mean, this is the hardest thing we will have done, certainly in my lifetime, as a country. This is on par with winning World War II, perhaps even maybe more challenging than that.”

As IJR Red reported, Buttigieg unveiled his climate change plan on Wednesday ahead of the forum, which includes making changes to the Department of Defense, such as adding a “Climate Watch Floor.”

Buttigieg took some heat from his remark:

“This is a pattern with Democrats,” Republican National Committee Rapid Response Director Steve Guest tweeted.

As IJR Red previously reported, prior to freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) being officially elected to Congress she compared climate change to WWII as well.

“When we talk about existential threats, the last time we had a real, major existential threat to this country was around World War II,” Ocasio-Cortez said, before calling it a “blueprint” in combating climate change.

  1. Uhhh…yeah, little mayor Pete. I guess tilting at windmills IS harder than hiding in a foxhole trying not to get shot while firing at an enemy that wants to kill you.

    Little mayor balls blue,
As you and your boyfriend go down,
    The gangs in South Bend
Have taken control of your town.
But where is the boy mayor?
    He’s courting more sheep!
    He’s running for president.
As he lets his town burn,
    And the gang drive-bys shoot
    The abiding in their sleep!

  2. World War II ended in 1945 – 74 years ago. WHAT does this butt-head know about anything? Maybe what he’s saying is that it’s HARDER to run his town as an inept mayor than it was to defeat the Germans and Japanese. THAT would make sense, then.
