While being interviewed on “Pod Save America,” Democratic gubernatorial candidate, Gavin Newsom, former mayor of San Francisco, said he hopes he can bring universal healthcare for illegal immigrants living in the state of California.
“I did universal healthcare when I was mayor, fully implemented, regardless pre-existing conditions and regardless of your immigration status,” Newsom said. “San Francisco is the only universal healthcare plan for all undocumented resisdents in America, very proud of that.”
“We proved it could be done without bankrupting the city. I’d like to see that we can extend that to the rest of the state,” he added.

Newsom had previously tweeted how “healthcare that doesn’t bankrupt you” is one of the many “basic human rights.”
Food to feed your family.
Healthcare that doesn’t bankrupt you.
An education that prepares you for the future.
An affordable, safe place to call home.
These should not be outlandish ideas.
These should be basic human rights.

Newsom further pointed to California’s economy, which is one of the biggest in the country, in addition to its large population, meaning the future leadership of the state needs to make sure the implementation of universal healthcare is done correctly.
