2020 Democratic presidential candidate Julián Castro doubts there’s a crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border so much he’s calling it “B.S.”
Appearing on CNN’s “New Day” Wednesday, when asked about the growing situation of immigrants trying to enter to the U.S. illegally and the president mulling closing the southern border temporarily, Castro tossed it aside.
“I don’t believe their narrative,” he said. “I don’t believe the B.S. that women and children who are fleeing dangerous circumstances present a national security threat to this country.”

In contrast to Castro’s statement, former Obama-era U.S. Border Patrol chief Mark Morgan destroyed the “false” narrative that migrants are “fleeing from extreme violence and persecution,” instead saying that immigration is mostly due to family reunification and economic equality.
As IJR Red reported, Castro is pushing immigration reform, unveiling his “People First” plan on Tuesday that would offer millions of immigrants paths to citizenship, as well decriminalize people coming into the U.S. illegally.
Castro’s disbelief comes at a time that the situation at the southern border continues to escalate into more of a crisis, as U.S. law enforcement has revealed.
In the month of February, the crisis reached a “breaking point” as the number of people trying to come into the U.S. illegally hit a 12-year-high — 76,103 total apprehensions, according to U.S. Department of Homeland Security statistics.
The situation continues to overwhelm the system as U.S. Customs and Border (CBP) apprehended over 3,700 people on March 25, a record number of the largest in a single day in over ten years.
During an interview Tuesday, DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said the immigration crisis is “like a massive CAT 5 hurricane disaster,” as IJR Red reported.
President Donald Trump is also expressing urgency to address the situation as he continues with his repetitive threats to shut down parts, if not the whole, border if Congress doesn’t start working together to “immediately eliminate the loopholes at the Border.”
Congress must get together and immediately eliminate the loopholes at the Border! If no action, Border, or large sections of Border, will close. This is a National Emergency!

“This is a National Emergency!” Trump declared once again on Twitter Wednesday.
