What isn’t clear is whether the hate crime is linked to the victim’s race. Police said earlier on Thursday that they don’t believe the victim was targeted because he had “special needs,” not because he was white. Mental disability is also a protected category in Chicago.
The four suspects, who are all black, allegedly kidnapped and tortured the white victim while shouting things like “f*** Donald Trump” and “f*** white people.” The victim was also bound with duct tape as his attackers cut his hair with a knife, cutting into his scalp.
Some of the extremely disturbing crime was broadcast live on Facebook.
