A Hospital based in Washington, D.C., will no longer provide gender-affirming medications to patients.
Childrenās National Hospital announced the change on itsĀ website. The change for the āGender Development Programā will go into effect Aug. 30.Ā
āIn light of escalating legal and regulatory risks to Childrenās National, our providers, and the families we serve, we will be discontinuing the prescription of gender-affirming medications,ā the website post said. āMental health and other support services for LGBT patients remain available. You are always welcome at Childrenās National for your other medical needs.ā
On July 9, the Department of Justice announced it had sent more than 20 subpoenas to ādoctors and clinics involved in performing transgender medical procedures on Children,ā Fox News reported.
It was not clear if Childrenās National received a subpoena.
āMedical professionals and organizations that mutilated Children in the service of a warped ideology will be held accountable by this Department of Justice,ā Attorney General Pamela Bondi said in a statement at the time.
The Hospital welcomes patients to be treated there for other things.
āLGBT patients are always welcome at Childrenās National for other medical needs and treatment,ā a Hospital spokesperson said.Ā
President Donald Trump signed an executive order ā āProtecting Children From Chemical and Surgical Mutilationā ā in late January.
The measure ordered federal agencies to cut Medicare, Medicaid as well as other federal funding from providers offering so-called āgenderāaffirming careā to patients under the age of 19.
