Joe Biden Adds Cindy McCain To the Advisory Board of His Transition Team

Share

Democratic nominee Joe Biden strengthened his campaign bonafides this week when he announced that Cindy McCain — the wife of the late Arizona senator and 20008 Republican presidential nominee John McCain — would be joining his transition team with a role on the advisory board.

The new role was first reported by the Wall Street Journal on Monday. The board is tasked with advising Biden’s team during the transition stages if Biden is elected in November. The position is not paid.

Cindy McCain endorsed Biden last week; at the time, Biden said that McCain chose to endorse him after reports that Trump demented service members.

In a series of tweets, McCain wrote, “Joe and I don’t always agree on the issues, and I know he and John certainly had some passionate arguments, but he is a good and honest man. He will lead us with dignity.”

She added, “He will be a commander in chief that the finest fighting force in the history of the world can depend on, because he knows what it is like to send a child off to fight.”

In a statement, Ted Kaufman who serves as co-chair on the Biden transition team, said, “Cindy McCain is joining our already strong advisory board of diverse experts who are committed to ensuring a Biden-Harris administration is ready to meet our country’s most urgent challenges on Day One.”

Kaufman added, “This transition is like no other, preparing amid the backdrop of a global health crisis and struggling economy, which makes Mrs. McCain’s experience as a business woman, philanthropist, and longtime advocate for issues impacting women and children all the more valuable.”

Other members of the board include former South Bend mayor Pete Buttigieg, former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates and Republican Bob McDonald, who served as secretary of Veteran’s Affairs under President Barack Obama.
