Climate Activists’ Protest in Nation’s Captial Backfires for ‘Genius Strategy’

A series of traffic-blocking protests Washington, D.C. are sparking backlash as several people are calling out the climate change activists.

Climate activists took to the streets, blocking traffic in their path, of the nation’s capital early Monday to place pressure on U.S. lawmakers to pass climate change legislation, as IJR reported.

“One thing we’ve learned is that shutting down a city is a very effective way to communicate the gravity of the climate crisis,” Extinction Rebellion DC spokesperson Kaela Bamberger said.

Monday’s protest, Shut Down DC, follows days after cities around the world on Friday urged lawmakers to take climate action. The push is led by Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, 16, and comes as leaders are meeting at the United Nations Climate Summit in New York.

Check out footage from the protest below:

Not everyone was too thrilled about the climate activists methods when taking on the streets of Washington, D.C.

“Allowing people to lay in the middle of the street during morning rush hour is not a compelling argument for statehood,” National Republican Senatorial Committee Executive Director Kevin McLaughlin tweeted.

Sen. Josh Hawley’s (R-Mo.) chief of staff also noted the “genius strategy” by those protesting, as he said they “[picked a] day of [the] week when no one wants to go to work” and “[created] traffic.” He also mocked them for “[winning] hearts and minds.”

Check out the reactions below:

Thunberg, the teenage activist, appeared for a Congressional hearing last Wednesday where she told lawmakers, “I don’t want you to listen to me. I want you to listen to the scientists.”

The climate activist made her way across the ocean from Europe to the United States by sailing, instead of taking a carbon-producing flight. However, that seemed to have backfired when she was called out for “hypocrisy” as two members of her sailing team flew to the U.S. to retrieve the boat, as IJR previously reported.

WHC,

The point that cannot be missed it this: there are certain people who will PURPOSELY exploit a child, even one they claim is suffering Ausperger’s Syndrome.

That’s literally victimizing the disabled.

This is making the most of not having had her murdered before birth. Every time I see them use “for the children” I feel like vomiting at their hypocrisy.

WHC,

ST, Nothing more to add. You’ve summed it up perfectly!!
The sarcasm in “well adjusted child with a bright future” was a brilliant POTUS ploy. And not far off. I work with many super intelligent people that are socially awkward but focused and brilliant.
What POTUS was implying was that the brilliance of this young lady could be put towards so much better use than as a globull warming activist parrying against windmills. And he’s right!!!

The obvious escapes the deluded. I call things as they are.

WHC, I could make a sarcastic comment that Greta seems a happy, well-adjusted child with a bright future. But I’d be lying and LITERALLY USING her the same way in which the warming cultists are doing. Greta Thunberg’s exploitation is shameful. Her parents are both warming cultists and have undoubtedly indoctrinated her since birth. q.v. Jimmy Kimmel’s use of his child as a prop for his beliefs. They’ve also allowed her to miss huge amounts of school, which she herself complains about. Children are impressionable and malleable. That’s why the Left’s occupation of public schools is brilliant but appalling. Apparently… Read more »

WHC, “ST, True story: I was apartment hunting for my son in DC who had been accepted for a full ride PHD scholarship at Georgetown. We visited an apartment advertised on Craigslist looking for a room-mate. The rent for DC was tempting. There were liquor bottles lining the window sills in every window and pictures of people passed out at parties held there posted on the walls as if those were trophies. My thoughts were, “God get me out of here!” Meanwhile, my son was more crafty. He talked to the prospective roommate and asked A LOT of questions about… Read more »

Using an Aspergers afflicted youngster to promote a political agenda seems a lot like child abuse to me!

I refuse to listen to young children pushed into the activist spotlight by their parents!!

For the millionth time, WE DON’T LET CHILDREN MAKE ADULT DECISIONS BECAUSE THEY’RE SHORT AND THEY’RE STUPID!!!

I've been wondering why the kiddies let mass transit buses through. Don't buses use gasoline, diesel or natural gas for fuel? Wouldn't those "fossil fuels" from just one bus destroy the entire Universe by tomorrow as well?

Question: why is EVERY SINGLE protester shown white and/or young? Don’t they have jobs or IS protesting their paid job? I hear there’s money to be made if you can get sponsorship from white billionaires like Soros or Steyer. I’d sign up for that just for the experience and invest the money in “evil” things like gun manufacturers or oil companies. Or maybe I’ll just buy some steaks as a gigantic middle-finger.

More white privilege the Left should protest.
