During her eulogy of Cummings, Clinton praised his record as a lawmaker and compared him to Elijah the prophet from the Old Testament of the Bible:
“It is no coincidence, is it, that Elijah Cummings shared a name with an Old Testament prophet, whose name meant in Hebrew ‘the lord is my god.’ And who used the power and the wisdom that God gave him to uphold the moral law that all people are subject to.”

Then she appeared to take a jab at Trump, likening Cummings’ arguments with the president to the record in the Bible where the prophet Elijah took a stand against King Ahab:
“Like that Old Testament prophet, he stood against corrupt leadership of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel.”
While Clinton did not reference Trump by name, supporters of Trump saw it as a slight against the president.
Trump and Cummings had several public feuds before he passed away this week. In July, Trump unleashed series of tweets aimed at Cummings’ record, and called the Maryland congressman a “racist.”
However, after Cummings’ death, Trump put partisanship aside and sent out a tweet lauding the Cummings’ accomplishments:
Clinton was just one of the several Democratic leaders scheduled to speak at Cummings’ memorial service.
