The Democratic National Committee (DNC) announced that they will host their 2020 nominating convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, triggering an avalanche of jokes at the expense of 2016 Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.
A report from Ken Thomas of the Wall Street Journal revealed that DNC Chair Tom Perez would be making the announcement about convention location Monday afternoon, prompting many to take a trip down memory lane to election night in 2016.
President Donald Trump shocked many pollsters on election night in 2016 and analysis of Clinton’s race made it abundantly clear that her failure to spend time in swing states like Wisconsin prevented her from securing the election that many believe she had in the bag.
Because 2016 proved to be disastrous for Democrats, it looks like the DNC planning to come back with a new strategy for 2020 with an emphasis on the midwestern states they missed in 2016.
Clinton already announced that she will not be running for president in 2020, but that doesn’t mean that her critics were going to let this moment pass. Several people took to Twitter to poke fun at the former candidate’s failed campaign, with many joking that she may finally visit the Badger State.
Hillary will finally visit Wisconsin! https://t.co/m4JG1I2a8Q

Four years too late, Democrats go to Wisconsin. https://t.co/xeuvE5Jtg5

That's one way to get Hillary to finally go there, and for Dems to pretend they care about flyover country. https://t.co/9VL5eOy5fP

This is the most epic trolling of Hillary Clinton ever. https://t.co/a8LhJFBGCM

Others even joked that this could be an attempt for the DNC to ensure that Clinton doesn’t make an appearance at the convention.
My gosh. DNC is taking extreme measures to ensure Hillary doesn't get a speaking role. https://t.co/KQ453SQ35i

So we know Hillary won't be going. https://t.co/1UrDbQdoVE

Clinton and Wisconsin were in the headlines last week after she claimed that racially-motivated voter suppression was the real reason she didn’t win the state. As IJR reported earlier, Clinton said:
“I was the first person who ran for president without the protection of the Voting Rights Act, and I will tell you it makes a really big difference. And it doesn’t just make a difference in Alabama and Georgia, it made a difference in Wisconsin, where the best studies that have been done said somewhere between 40,000 and 80,000 people were turned away from the polls because of the color of their skin, because of their age, because of whatever excuse could be made up to stop a fellow American citizen from voting.”
She was later hit with a “four Pinocchios” rating from the Washinton Post fact-checking team for this statement.
Even though Clinton still may not understand why she lost Wisconsin in 2016, it looks like the DNC is already learning from her mistake in their 2020 efforts.
