Vice President Kamala Harris appeared to struggle to define her own role in the Biden administration during an interview with âLate Showâ host Stephen Colbert.
Colbert talked to Harris about the show âVeepâ during her appearance on the show Thursday night.
âOne of the themes of the show is that her character, Selina Meyer, is frustrated by the sometimes vague duties of the role. Itâs a high constitutional office but does not describe what youâre supposed to be doing. Does that ring true? Like, whatâs the actual role on a daily basis as you have found it?â Colbert asked.
Harris replied, âWell, I have the great privilege of serving with Joe Biden, who is the President of the United States ⌠and was vice president.â
Colbert asked, âDoes he understand what itâs like to be vice president?â
Harris explained, âHe does, he does. He really is a true partner and he understands that job. And remember, we came in during the height of the pandemic. And so much of the work was about OK, weâve got to cover a lot of bases and letâs figure out between us how we can do it.â
She continued, âBut heâs an extraordinary leader and I wish people could see what I see because thereâs only one person who sits behind that Resolute desk. And the decisions that person has to make are the decisions that nobody else in the country can make. And heâs an extraordinary leader. He really is.â
After the applause Colbert responded, âThatâs an excellent answer and, uh, the question was whatâs the job of the vice president.â
The vice president responded with one of her laughs.
Colbert added, âAnd your answer is part of the job, Iâm guessing.â
She proceeded to refer to her recent visit to the Munich Security Conference in February.
âI declared that we, the United States of America, believe that Russia has committed crimes against humanity,â Harris said.

Turning Point USA contributor Isabel Brown suggested, âWe are literally living through an episode of Veep.â
HBOâs description of the show âVeepâ explained it stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus as the âVice President of the United States in this hilarious HBO comedy series.â
It continued, âEach episode follows her whirlwind day-to-day existence as she puts out political fires, juggles public and private demands and defends the interests of the chief executiveâwith whom she shares a uniquely dysfunctional relationship.â
