White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Friday called former FBI Director James Comey a “disgraced partisan hack” and ragged on his performance in the FBI in response to a new book in which Comey talks about his time working under President Donald Trump.
During Friday’s press briefing, Sanders was asked whether the president is worried about what Comey will reveal in the book, and Sanders continued the recent trend at the White House of tearing down the ex-FBI director and bashing his credibility.
“The American people see right through the blatant lies of a self-admitted leaker,” Sanders said.
“This is nothing more than a poorly executed PR stunt by Comey to desperately rehabilitate his tattered reputation and enrich his own bank account by peddling a book that belongs in the bargain bin of the fiction section instead of being remembered as a dedicated servant in the pursuit of justice,” she continued.

Sanders continued her aggressive comments about Comey by slamming his role in promoting what the White House sees as an anti-Trump bias in the FBI. The Trump administration has taken a fiery stance against Comey in an effort to discredit his book ahead of its publication next week.
“Like so many of his other colleagues at the FBI, Comey will be forever known as a disgraced partisan hack that broke his sacred trust with the president of the United States, the dedicated agents of the FBI and the American people he vowed to faithfully serve,” Sanders said.
“One of the president’s greatest achievements will go down as firing Director James Comey,” she added.
Later in the briefing, Sanders returned to the subject of Comey, offering several examples in which she said Comey lied, including details pertaining to the Clinton investigation, the Russia probe and his leaking of memos describing his interactions with Trump.
Sanders also weighed in on the Trump administration’s position on Comey’s recent claims that Trump asked him to investigate details in the Christopher Steele dossier that started the Russia investigation, including unverified allegations that Trump had a sexual encounter with a prostitute before becoming president
“The dossier is false opposition research that was funded by the Clinton campaign to attack the president,” Sanders told reporters. “It was used illegally to justify spying on Americans. And I think that’s quite the problem.”
Watch Sanders respond to other questions on Comey during Friday’s press briefing:
Sanders concluded her heated exchange with reporters by attacking the media coverage of Comey, which she says is unjustified in its praise of him and its refusal to report on “issues that people care about.” She argued that by giving Comey so much attention, members of the press are giving credence to his lies.
