Former President Donald Trumpās comment about Vice President Kamala Harrisā heritage is not going over well ā even with some who are not opposed to him.
On Wednesday night, conservative CNN contributor Scott Jennings argued Trump ādeserves some pointsā for going to theĀ National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) conference in Chicago when he suggested Harris has not always identified as Black.
āThat being said, he did crap the bed today,ā Jennings admitted. āThe only question is whether heās gonna roll around in it or get up and change the sheets.ā
He added, āMy advice would be, get up, change the sheets, and do what your campaign is doing! The campaign knows how to prosecute the case, OK? Theyāre on the air with it to the tune of millions of dollars on her policy record. Thatās what they should be doing. This is not going to end the way he wants it to end. Thereās a better way to do this. And they know what to do, but itās on him to do it.ā

On Wednesday, Trump visited the NABJ and sat down for an interview.
ABC Newsā Rachel Scott noted Republicans have attacked Harris as a āDEI hireā and asked if he finds that to be āacceptable language,ā and if he would tell his supporters and members of his party to stop using that line of attack.
āWell, I can say, no, I think maybe itās a little different. Iāve known her a long time indirectly, not directly very much, and she was always of Indian heritage, and she was only Indian heritage,ā Trump responded.
He went on:
āI didnāt know she was Black until a number of years ago, when she happened to turn Black, and now, she wants to be known as Black. So, I donāt know ā is she Indian or is she Black?ā
Scott noted Harris has āalways identified as a Black personā and attended a historically Black college. The vice president wasĀ also a memberĀ of the Congressional Black Caucus while she was in the Senate.
Trump went on, āI respect either one. But she obviously doesnāt. Because she was Indian all the way, and then all of a sudden she made a turn and she became a Black person.ā
In a post on Truth Social, he wrote, āCrazy Kamala is saying sheās Indian, not Black. This is a big deal. Stone cold phony. She uses everybody, including her racial identity!ā
