On Wednesday, Mueller spent the day testifying before two separate House committees on the findings of his two-year-long investigation into President Donald Trump. While Democrats may have hoped Mueller would have more to add, he stuck with his report and refused to comment beyond his original findings that there was no evidence of criminal conspiracy and he would not be charging the president with obstruction of justice.
Still, many Democrats acted as though Mueller’s testimony gave their impeachment quest a breath of fresh air. As IJR reported earlier, the party plans to continue to their investigations into Trump, in addition to some calls to move forward with impeachment.
During an interview on Fox News, Conway blasted Democrats for continuing to do “backflips” to spin the report into something more damaging to President Trump. She bashed the House majority for focusing on investigations, rather than policy.
Watch Conway’s comments:
“Frankly, I’ve heard it all. They’re trying to do backflips and acrobatics to pretend that, somehow, this is about election protection. That they needed Bob Mueller there to amplify the report. And you correctly called [Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.)] out. They can’t make up their mind. They want to work on every investigation, every fantastical, phony — [there] will never be an indictment — every impeachment measure. And not fixing the asylum laws. Not work on infrastructure, drug pricing, health care. We have so much to do in this country.”
Conway claimed that “everybody knows” the testimony on Wednesday was a “political exercise, not a legal exercise.” She claimed Democrats are only using Mueller to further their odds of winning the White House back in 2020.
She also commented on Mueller’s widely criticized performance, telling host Harris Faulkner that it was “clear” Mueller hadn’t read his own report.
“[Democrats] can’t get over the 2016 election. They haven’t a clue how to beat [Trump] in 2020, that’s pretty obvious. And when they’re not losing impeachment resolutions, 323-95 last week, they’re stirring up trouble with Bob Mueller. Hey, Harris, we’ve seen the polling. Very few Americans actually admit to having read the Mueller report and today we know that includes Bob Mueller. He also didn’t read the Mueller report.”
For now, it remains unclear how Democrats will move forward in their investigations into President Trump.
