The former campaign manager for President Donald Trump’s 2016 White House run seemingly stunned Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) during his contentious House Judiciary Committee hearing.
While being questioned by Swalwell, Lewandowski — who is eyeing a 2020 Senate run in New Hampshire — was asked to read words “dictated” to him by Trump from a screen in the committee room.
The former Trump campaign manager repeatedly pushed back against the California Democrat, and seemingly tripped up Swalwell after he referred to the California congressman as “President Swalwell” during a terse exchange.
Swalwell: Can you read what you wrote down?
Lewandowski: I’m happy to have you read it, congressman.
Swalwell: Why don’t you want to read it, Mr. Lewandowski?
Lewandowski: I think you should afford me the same privilege you afforded Director [Robert] Mueller.
Swalwell: Would you like to read it?
Lewandowski: No, you’re welcome to read it.
Swalwell: Are you ashamed of the words that you’ve wrote down?
Lewandowski: President Swalwell, I’m very happy with what I’ve written, but you’re happy to read it if you’d like.
Swalwell: Are you — Are you ashamed to read it out loud?
Lewandowski: I’m not ashamed of anything in my life, congressman. Are you?
Swalwell: Then why don’t you read the words?
Lewandowski: Congressman, I’ve asked and answered your question —
Swalwell: Mr. Lewandowski, why won’t you read the words aloud?
Lewandowski: I’ve asked and answered your question, congressman. If you’d like to read the words, you’re welcome to.

Swalwell became the first major candidate of the Democrats running for the party’s presidential nomination to drop out of the primary race. His progressive campaign focused mainly on gun control, with Swalwell backing the idea of a mandatory gun buyback.
After ending his campaign, Swalwell backtracked on his promise not to run for Congress should he campaign for president, announcing that he would run for re-election in 2020.
This is not the first time Swalwell has been tripped up on national television.
Biden fired back at Swalwell by saying that he was still “holding onto that torch.”
