Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) stole the show at the annual Washington Press Club Foundation Congressional Dinner as he tried out stand-up comedy, which included an impersonation of President Donald Trump.
“This is a bit of a risk,” Crenshaw told the crowd on Wednesday night. “… Buckle your seatbelts people — yikes.”
The Texan representative gave a “taste” of his stand-up prior to the event, jokingly mocking Democrats, saying earlier this week, “Only they can come up with a $93 trillion Green New Deal.”

At the event, Crenshaw took the stage and kicked off his stand-up routine by saying, “Actually, I’m going to start with a Trump joke — I want to earn your trust.”
“I’m just imagining what’s going in the president’s head when he’s saying this: ‘Tim, he makes a lot of money,’” Crenshaw said. He continued with his impersonation:
“More money than me? No, not possible. He makes the phones. I make the hotels. He makes tiny, little phones. I make big, beautiful hotels. What are those phones called? Apples. Tim Apple.”
“When you brand, it should be your last name: Tim Apple,” Crenshaw said. He noted that the media should “love” Trump.
He went on to joke about everything being considered Trump’s fault:
“… We’ve gotten so sensitive, it’s so easy to trigger everybody these days, especially if you mention President Donald Trump. I’m triggering some people right now, that’s why nobody’s laughing at the Trump jokes … trip and fall — it’s Trump’s fault. Phone died before you finished calling your Uber — Trump. Stopped working out, even after buying the Peloton for Christmas and getting a new membership at Orange Theory — Trump’s fault, and he’s kind of orange.”
Crenshaw continued in his stand-up by later making a joke about former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) — who announced Thursday morning his run in the 2020 presidential race.
He mocked O’Rourke’s web diary, where the Democrat documents his stories on Medium.
The jokes came from both sides as Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-Ill.) also cracked a few of her own.

Crenshaw’s act on stage brought laughter and applause from many on social media for his “outstanding performance.”
Social media praised Crenshaw’s stand-up:
Congrats to @RepDanCrenshaw on an outstanding performance at #WPCFdinner. In a city without a sense of humor, it’s refreshing to see a conservative steal the show with a great comedic performance. Thank you!

Crenshaw has had his share of jokes, as previously, the then-Congressman-elect made an appearance on “Saturday Night Live” to roast Pete Davidson after the comedian mocked his eye patch, which he sports after losing an eye while deployed in Afghanistan.
