Freshman Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) blasted 2020 Democratic presidential primary candidate and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) for “virtue signaling” about the immigration crisis at the southern border while not providing any ideas to address it.
As IJR Red reported, Sanders tweeted last week that holding those caught trying to illegally cross the border in the overcrowded immigration facilities was “inhumane” and needed to “stop now.”
“We must end the dehumanization of immigrants and develop a humane policy for those at the border who seek asylum,” the self-described democratic socialist wrote.
900 people were held at a border facility with a maximum capacity of 125, according to the DHS Inspector General.
This is inhumane. It must stop NOW.
We must end the dehumanization of immigrants and develop a humane policy for those at the border who seek asylum.

Crenshaw — who represents the border state of Texas — promptly called him out for opting to “virtue signal” about the situation instead of “support[ing] actual solutions.”
Maybe you could start by supporting POTUS request for $4.5 B in humanitarian aid, to include more facilities?
Maybe you could support @LindseyGrahamSC bill to reform asylum process?
Maybe you won’t support actual solutions because you prefer to virtue signal about the crisis? https://t.co/tZk3nEwnA5

Crenshaw continued his blasting of Sanders during an appearance on “Fox & Friends” Monday morning, slamming the Vermont independent and the left-wing of the Democratic Party for “not want[ing] to see a solution” to the crisis at the southern border.
He also pummeled Sanders and the Democrats as “virtue signaling” about illegal immigration because they want the situation to “keep going” so that they have the opportunity to campaign on the issue more.
“We’re dealing with another side of the party that does not want to see a solution here. Look at Bernie’s tweet: he didn’t note any solutions. Not one. He’s virtue signaling. And they’re virtue signaling because they actually want this crisis to keep going so they can keep campaigning about it.”

The freshman Republican continued on to say that the Democrats and Sanders “won’t listen to actual solutions,” such as President Donald Trump’s ask for $4.5 billion to increase the number of holding facilities along the southern border that Sanders was “complaining about.”
“We actually have solutions, they don’t want to talk about it,” added Crenshaw.
As IJR Red previously reported, Crenshaw blasted congressional Democrats on Twitter last month for not addressing the border crisis, “break[ing] down” the five steps of their “strategy” regarding the increasing illegal immigration numbers, such as “conflating illegal immigration with legal immigration.”
