New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has officially jumped into the 2020 Democratic race, and he’s trying to use his past experience fighting “Con Don” as a selling point of why voters should check his name on their ballots.

During an interview with “Good Morning America” on Thursday, de Blasio made his case for the presidency, arguing that he will put the government “on the side of working people” again.

“Right now, the federal government is sure not on the side of working people,” de Blasio said. “And that’s because Donald Trump is playing a big con on America.”

The mayor then explained how “every New Yorker knows [Trump]’s a con artist,” as he continued to tout himself as an anti-Trump champion who has learned “his playbook” over the years.

“I call him ‘Con Don.’ Every New Yorker knows he’s a con artist,” the two-term New York mayor continued. “We know his tricks. We know his playbook.”

“I know how to take him on,” de Blasio continued to proclaim in the interview. He added that he’s “been watching him for decades” and called out Trump for his “lie” to “convince working Americans he’s on their side.”

In his campaign video released the same day, de Blasio reiterated how he plans to use the same strategies he used to fight Trump “before” in order to beat him “again.”

“Donald Trump must be stopped,” de Blasio said in his official campaign launch video for 2020. “I’ve beaten him before, and I will do it again.

“There’s plenty of money in this world, there’s plenty of money in this country, it’s just in the wrong hands,” the mayor explained while denouncing Trump for being a “bully.”

Although de Blasio shows a lot of passion in his efforts to fight Trump head-on, proving that he is electable is one thing the mayor will have to overcome in the primaries.

Cited by “Good Morning America” host George Stephanopoulos, a Quinnipiac poll from early April showed that 76 percent of New York City voters don’t want the mayor to run for president versus only 18 percent of voters who do.

However, de Blasio was quick to respond to this criticism, touting the fact that he received 73 percent vote during his election as mayor and 67 percent of the vote at his re-election — arguing that with polling, “it’s not where you start, it’s where you end.”

Trump, on the other hand, has already taken shots at de Blasio’s campaign, tweeting on Thursday that it’s a “JOKE.”

The president went on to say that “if you like high taxes & crime, he’s your man” and claimed that “NYC HATES HIM!”
