As sexual assault and sexual harassment accusations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein continue to mount, many Democrats have returned the money he donated to them. When it comes to megadonors for the Democratic Party, he nears the top of the list.
While most Democrats in Congress had returned the money or gave it to nonprofits almost a day after The New York Times’s story was published, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) revealed Sunday she has yet to return Weinstein’s contributions.
The Los Angeles Times reports Weinstein gave Feinstein $375 in 1992 and $1,000 in 1994.
When asked by NBC’s Chuck Todd on “Meet The Press” if she’ll return the money, the California senator said she’ll look into it.
“I don’t know that I’ve received any. I’ll certainly take a look, and then I’ll make a decision,” Feinstein said.
“I just don’t know. Anytime somebody does something wrong, and he’s done mighty wrong, and no one has ever questioned where I stand on any of this stuff,” she added. “Somebody comes to you and says, ‘Oh, they contributed to you, are you giving back the money?’ And you sort of look like a startled bird and say, ‘Well, let me look and see.’ And that’s the best I can do for you today.”
The Democratic National Committee received some heat for giving its contributions from Weinstein to Democratic-aligned organizations. In addition, it was only going to give a small portion of what it received from the Hollywood producer.
