The majority of Democrats believe that their party needs new leaders, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released Thursday.

Sixty-two percent of Democrats polled said they agreed with a statement that “the leadership of the Democratic Party should be replaced with new people,” according to the poll. Meanwhile, just 24% of Democrats disagreed with the statement while the rest said they were unsure or did not respond.

The poll also found that only 30% of Republicans said they thought they needed new leaders in their party.

Some Democrats said their party can sometimes prioritize issues that they view as less essential, including transgenderism, according to the poll. Of those surveyed, just 17% of Democrats said allowing transgender athletes to compete in women and girls’ sports should be a priority, while 28% of Democrats said they believe party leaders view it as a priority.

“Voters are very impatient right now,” Mark Riddle, the president of Future Majority, a Democratic research firm, told Reuters. “They want elected officials at all levels to address the cost of living, kitchen-table issues and affordability.”

Benjamin Villagomez, who is trans, said that “there are more pressing issues” than transgender issues, Reuters reported.

“There are more important things to be moving the needle on … things that actually matter to people’s livelihoods,” Villagomez told the outlet.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll follows a spate of recent surveys showing that many Democrats disapprove of their party’s leadership and hold a pessimistic view of the future of the party.

Additionally, some prominent Democrats have recently deemed the Democratic Party as being too “weak and woke,” while others have expressed uncertainty over whether their party will be able to retake control of the Senate in the 2026 midterm elections.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll surveyed 4,258 people nationwide and online June 11 through 16, including 1,293 Democrats. It had a margin of error of about 3 percentage points for Democrats.
