From Possibly Mishearing to Refusing to Answer, Dems Get Called Out for Dodging Debate Questions

Democratic candidates attempted to dodge questions during the first 2020 Democratic primary debate and were quickly called out on social media for avoiding direct answers.

As IJR Blue reported, the debate focused on many hot topics, including healthcare, taxes, and gun control. However, some candidates attempted to dodge questions and gave vague or confusing answers.

Beto O’Rourke

The first example is Beto O’Rourke, who side-stepped the question then went on to give a vague answer in Spanish.

Many were quick to call out the candidate for using the language as a scapegoat instead of using it to support his point.

Read some reactions below:

”Love that Beto just tried to dodge a substantive question by speaking Spanish,” said one user.

Another user pointed out fellow candidate Sen. Cory Booker’s (D-N.J.) reaction.

Tulsi Gabbard

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) also had an awkward encounter when her answer did not seem to match the question asked.

“Tulsi Gabbard is talking about 9/11, national security and war in response to a question about .. equal pay?” Questioned Miriam Elder

“Tulsi Gabbard turns a question about equal pay for women into not answering the question but ticking of her biography and talking about the importance of national security,” Matt Viser pointed out.

Elizabeth Warren

Sen. Elizabeth Warren claimed that gun control should be treated like “a serious research problem” instead of answering directly.

Warren was quickly called out, with many targeting her research claim.

The next round of candidates will face off in a debate on Thursday, but it is uncertain if they will avoid direct answers like Wednesday’s debaters.

Sadly, Julian Castro seemed to be the only person on the stage who was even prepared for the debate. The game of dodgeball was pretty embarrassing for the ‘B’ team. I actually look forward to this next debate despite being forced to watch it on MSNBC. I wonder if Bernie and Joe will wear sombreros because I doubt they speak any Spanish. Even if they answer phonetically, they won’t make anymore sense than they do when blathering in English.
