While congressional Democrats were up in arms about the Trump’s administration’s moves with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) deportation raids, a new poll reveals the slim majority of Americans might see things differently.
President Donald Trump made known that there would be significant ICE deportation raids over the past weekend. However, as Sunday evening rolled out, it seemed though there were low-profile raids, according to Reuters. However, Trump said they were “very successful.”
Democrats have decried the raids, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who said in June before a previous threat to begin ICE raids that it’s “an act of utter malice and bigotry, designed solely to inject fear in our communities.”
“This is not an act to root out dangerous individuals,” Schumer said. “This is an act of brutish force designed to spread fear in the immigrant community.”
“We must stop family separation, reunite families that have been separated, and eliminate private detention facilities,” Sanders added. “Know your rights. Conozca sus derechos.”
Another 2020 Democratic hopeful, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), labeled the deportations “wrong.” She tweeted, “We are about to fail a critical moral test.” Harris also said, “This would be a shameful stain on our country.”
Several Democrats also pushed the “Know Your Rights” campaign ahead of the past weekend’s raids.
Know you rights.

However, according to a Morning Consult/Politico poll, a slim majority of voters, 51%, support ICE’s deportation raids of illegal immigrants. Thirty-five percent are in opposition. Among those polled, 85% of Republicans are in support while 29% of Democrats expressed support.
