  • #1 It is the coaches JOB to know the rules! #2 The school should have filed for the exception at the start of the season. #3 It is not the Referee's job to grant an exception. And last but not least did you notice that she said "I'm a Muslim.I'm an American, Thats a problem. You should be an American first!

I used to play basketball, the rule you can't wear any jewlery, or anything on your head, if this girl wants to play basketball, she should start her own league, and make  her rules, otherwise she needs to abide by the rules stablish, if they come to USA they need to asimilate or stay in their muslim country.

I worked with multiple profesional muslim women neither of them wears a cover,

now they are forcing themselves in.

    • Absolutely, Larry!  Try living around Muslims and see what you get.  There are so many serious situations which have taken place in Europe over the last 35 years, it is unbelievable that even the dumbest politician has not caught on.  But they haven't!  President Trump commented recently on Sweden and the Muslim problem.  The Swedish PM rushed in to make an international incident out of his remarks, claiming the President knows nothing of which he speaks.  The next day, big riots in one of the Swedish towns, pillaging, rape. . . .you name it!  Same for sections of England.

The French police are already shutting down mosques as fast as they can.  All mosques are, by definition, anti-French.  All mosques in the USA are, by definition, anti-American.  All mosques in Germany are, by definition, anti-German.  All mosques in Sweden are, by definition, anti-Swedish.  All mosques in Norway are, by definition, anti-Norwegian.  What a coincidence that this should be so.  And what a revelation to politicians to find this out. . . .usually the hard way after some rioting, rape, murder and pillage take place with innocent citizens killed and injured.

CAIR is a front organization for terrorist groups and the FBI has that record open for all to see, an unindicted conspiracy going back several years.  What about the British embassy some years ago?  What about the American embassy some years ago?  What about the Marine barracks in Lebanon some years ago?  What about the USS Cole?  What about 9/11?

Islam is the source for all of this.  The young girl at the high school, who just happens to like our basketball game, is a representative of all of this.  If she believes in America, then, why the hijab?  Thomas jefferson wrote some 225 years ago that cultures hostile to ours and our form of government would not be successful here, unless they chose to disavow their previous culture, accept ours, our values, our language, lock, stock and barrel.  History has shown this to be true everywhere.  What does it take for some to understand this?  A bullet through the head or a scimitar being brought down on the neck?

    • Seems clear a game time referee shouldn't be making this decision either.  There is an exception process.  As a 12 year high school and middle school girls basketball coach I can tell you, YES they should know the rules.  School sports have for years been quite particular about clothing for a variety of reasons.  In basketball this raises some real safety concerns, both for the girl wearing the hijab as well as the other players.

    • I'm not sure I agree with the last statement.  I'm a Christian but I would not let my nation take that from me.  I love my country and our current President.  We have let Christianity go out the window by allowing gays to marry (and no - I do not hate gays but sin is sin).  We all have sinned and fall short but we should not condone sin.  We were a Chrisitan nation until we allowed the atheists to start dictating where and when we could practice our religion.  It was the coaches job to know the rules - so in reality, it is a moot point.  He should have filed the necessary paperwork.

    • Thank you Renee,  I couldn't agree more. And I had forgotten about the chess match until you mentioned it. And that is a perfect example of how we have allowed our country to decay to the point of becoming disgracefully unrecognizable to our grandfathers. We have complacently sat by quietly watching and often joining in, not noticing, at least not until recently, how emasculated we've become. We have let the PC plague to slowly infest us without noticing how much we've been drained, bit by bit over the past couple of decades, of our courage, morals and testosterone to the point of becoming eunuchs. Tolerance has become the new polite. Only problem is, in reality it's a failed substitute. And  we've been tricked into believing that "multiculturalism" is a very great and charitably civilized, respectable means of "advancing our culture".  Well, I might not disagree if we, as Americans grow a pair and a spine (like our ancestors had, and make it very clear that we are a decent, kind and generous country that welcomes anyone here, and will treat you with dignity and respect, but expect the same, and with the understanding that you will follow and respect our laws and assimilate into OUR COUNTRY! Which also includes learning the English language! And we have to get back to having enough respect for ourselves to stand up and make it very clear that if you don't follow our rules, we'll hand you your ass on a plate as we put you back on the slow boat. I mean, when are we gonna grow up and start acting like real men and women again? Ask yourselves this. Would your grandparents, great grandparents be proud of you, or act like you? I don't think so. The chess match is a perfect example of my point.  Do other countries around the world have laws and societal, cultural, language, etc. clear and widely known expectations demanded of any foreigners they might allow in? If you decide to permanently move to Dubai or France or Russia do you think they'll accommodate you by adding English as a second language, or in the case of Dubai, think they'd be cool with you, and since there's about 50 or so other Christians in the city you live, building a church, or better yet,  if you were Jewish, a synagogue. Yeah I'd love to see that! And I bet you'd be treated real well as they politely asked you to leave. All because unlike us, they have respect for themselves and their country. Something we are in dire need of! When we show no self respect or respect or loyalty to our country  (burning the flag,  you disgusting, waste of space assholes need to be locked up  after you get a real old fashioned ass whipping), how do we expect for any immigrants to?  Point is, hell no, she either takes the rag off and show some damned respect for our country and culture, or stay off the court. Or, if this isn't acceptable to you,  then f*cin' leave!!! I'm sure you'll be missed, NOT!

  • I am so tired of people like her who flout the rules and then are upset about the consequences.  We should follow France and outlaw the hijab in public schools.  And while we're at it we should outlaw the burka, or what ever the long black robe is called.  It is used to disguise terrorits and allow them into to places that they have no business being at.  And yes, nuns wear head coverings and special robes.  Not one of them uses that as a disguise to blow themselves up!  The same is true for the Amish.  Their white bonnets are not used to hide bombs.  Neither the nuns nor the Amish are trying to force me to convert to their religion or they'll kill me.  (Do NOT brng up the behavior of Catholics in the past. Yes, they did the same thing.  The difference is that they aren't doing it NOW and the muslims are!) If they want to wear those scarves and robes then they should wear them in their own private school and not subject them on others.

If there isn't a rule o not wear anything on their head girl will be coming in wearing crazy stuff and getting hurt. There is an exception to the rule but you have to file paperwork with them before playing to be exce, pmed and I. Sure there will be a safety briefing on it. Also they now make and have had for a while now special ones that likes a drivers wet suit style for sports and stuff. She chose not to follow the rules and flemthe exception and now is complaining she didn't get to play and was being discriminated against for her religion, she wasn't she wasn't following the rules so she didn't get to play. If she followed the rules she would have been able to play, but she didn't. They are trying to change the rules so you don't have to file the exception and that can cause a major safety issue.

    • Unfortunately, Victoria, I am going to bring up the behavior of Catholics in the past (and I say this as a Catholic)...we did force Native American children to convert to Catholicism and to give up their language and customs to conform to our overzealous commitment to Catholicism. And that is part of relatively recent history.   It is unclear to me why a person wearing a scarf that complies with their religious beliefs is so upsetting to people.  I live in a community that welcomes immigrants and diversity and I have found that my life has been enriched by the opportunity to interact with neighbors who are somewhat different from me.  I don't have all the answers in life, so it is helpful to look at the world through the experience of others.  The Amish have had their own struggles with trying to live separately because of others who want them to conform to "American standards."  Thankfully, the courts have generally respected their religious freedom.

    • So, Heather, is long hair a safety hazard?  What about wearing glasses or a hearing aid?  I am unclear how you are seeing wearing a hijab as a major safety issue. There are varieties of hijabs that are more like a knitted hat than a specific scarf. Many groups request an accomodation in all aspects of life--would you tell a deaf person that signing is too distruptive and should not be allowed, would you tell a person in a wheel chair that they should take the stairs?  Special treatment...what about fairness and respect for our country which has a tradition of immigration?  My family has only been here for three generations and my ethnicity was not welcomed with open arms.  However, we now hold many of the positions in the Senate and the House.   Just because my ancestors were treated badly upon arrival, I would get no pleasure from treating other newcomers in a negative way.  We have had traditions that isolate others because we didn't consider emerging needs and ideas.  Let's correct problems and operate in an inclusive way as we seek to understand the perspective of our newer arrivals.

  • Well we're no longer allowed to pledge allegiance to the flag and our country in schools because it mentions God, ergo, religion. If even we Americans have to separate church and state so much so we aren't even allowed to show respect to our flag.... I feel like that law violated BOTH my religion AND my country, but hey thems the rules! We all have to follow the rules, a world without rules is chaos (I guess this is why half the nation is in a chaotic state because only half of us are expected to and prefer too have rules in place to follow.) So no, if American Christians can't have our religious God even mentioned in our schools then muslims or anyone else can't expect to play their religion card in any school in our country and find it fair and get away with it. That's the law if you all want to enter and be part of our great country. We shouldn't have to atone to your rights and beliefs if we aren't even allowed to adhere to our own!... Why is it too difficult to follow Americas "lax" laws compared to other countries that behead and stone their citizens? They followed their own laws til that came here otherwise they wouldn't have their heads anymore!... Like with kids, the saying goes "give them an inch and they take a mile" same appllies here, "give them freedom and they want to take take take more until they take ours away".....

Saying Merry Christmas is too offensive and unlawful because of religion, yet Haunaka, Kwanza and every other form of the CHRISTmas season is coddled and welcomed to practice with open arms and insisted upon even when offensive to Americans (because our very God was taken out of our Christmas, the very reason for which the holiday is based on. All the other "rituals" of Christmas  are revered as ok- Santa, money money money, Christmas is a very lucrative holiday after all! Just not the "Christ" part even tho Christ is in the word itself).... And we also celebrate (IN OUR SCHOOLS) to show respect and learn about every OTHER culture day?? Hmmm, Somethings really wrong with that, and it STINKS!.. . America land of the free, only if you aren't American apparently. Otherwise they are free to do whatever they want while oppressing the very people, soil and freedom they came here seeking.

  • Sorry but as much as I support DJT  I side with the young lady. If she was allowed to wear her hijab the entire season, then the ref overstepped his position. The constitution also guarantees us freedom of religion. This young lady was insulted and humiliated in front of her team and a stadium full of parents. If this is the best we can do then we are F'd in our A's.

    •  O the ref did not overstep His position. He would have over stepped it if he allowed her to wear it. She chose not to follow the rules so she didn't get to play. It's not the refs fault she didn't follow the rules And was embarrassed in front of everyone it's hers and her coaches fault for not following the rules. How is he suppose to know the other ref s of the games allowed her to wear it without filing the proper paperwork, they could have just been saying she was allowed to. It's a safety reason. If her or someone else got hurt the league could have been sued bc of it. That's why they have to have the proper paperwork on file for it, and she had freedom of religion that is why in the rules it states exceptions can be made for religous and medical reasons as long as the proper paperwork is file with the state before playing the game. She didn't follow the rules so she didn't get to play.

  • You people are full of a lot of hatred. The rule says there are exceptions for religion.    She didn't have a problem in the first 26 games, of which two were post season games, only this one. Seems that the ref has a personal problem with the headdress. I don't know anyone who doesn't know the Hajib is worn for religious beliefs. I bet you if Christians wore this, there wouldn't be a problem with it.

  • Well I look at it like this, it's a previlage that she and her like are even allowed to be in this country anyway,  because there is a law from 1952 that states there are no Muslims allowed entry into the United States !! IF YOU ARE IN THIS COUNTRY, YOU ARE IN AMERICA NOT WHERE IN HELL EVER YOU CAME FROM. WHILE HERE ABIDE BY THE LAWS OF THE LAND AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT THEN TAKE YOUR ASS BACK TO THE HELL HOLE YOU CAME FROM WHERE YOU CAN PRACTICE THE HELL OUT OF YOUR QURAN !!!!!!

  • The creation of headdress for those in the Middle East, especially the woman, one can understand the logic of the man in wanting to keep their women protected from the elements. But Mohammed turned that common sense into religious dogma and commandment with punishment for defiance of HIS LAW. Both the Hijab and the Burka, then and now, are only shields and reinforcements for the muslim male and his insecurity in winning and keeping the hearts and loyalty of a woman in defense against another muslim male. Notice I did not say man.

  • MEMO to CAIR: Having lived in the Middle East and sat in church at 8 years old while Ghaddafi henchmen tore down the cross inside my church and forced Italians who were predominately Catholic to leave Libya with the shirts on their back; I can tell you Islam is not tolerant nor a a welcoming religion. I do not understand after 25 years living in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Latin American why after living under others cultural and religious rules, I should come home to the USA founded on Christianity and forego celebrating Christmas because it offends Muslims and making exceptions for Muslim religious practices and accepting of Sharia Law steeped in the 15th Century when we live in the 21st Century! Muslims need to integrate into the US or leave! As to CAIR, get back to us when you've worked out an agreement with all Muslim countries worldwide to be respectful of Christians practicing their religion in your countries without being subjected to genocide and church burning!

  • Here's the irony:  Atheists succeeded in removing God from schools by grossly manipulating the Free Exercise Clause in the First Amendment (no such thing as 'separation of church and state' in the Constitution;  now Muslims are demanding that Muhammad be allowed in when our Constitution was based upon "One Nation Under God".

A quote I recently read:   Christians & Jewish martyrs say; "I will die for what I believe".   A Muslim martyr says; "you will die for what I believe"....   Doubt it?  Here is what is written in the Qur'an by Muhammad...who had a lust for power, married 12 times, had sex with children, raped women, killed 'non-believers', and stole from his victims:

    - Truly, god loves those who fight

    - Fight and slay the pagans wherever you find them,   and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for   them in every stratagem.

    - Chop off their hands and chop off their fingertips

    - When you meet the unbelievers, chop off their   heads

    - Fight and slay those who don't convert wherever   you find them

    - Believers, take neither Jew nor Christians for your   friends

    - Those who follow Muhammad are ruthless to   unbelievers

    - Those who reject Islam are "the vilest of creatures"   and thus deserve no mercy

    - Fight them until Islam reigns supreme (throughout   the world).

There are more than 100 verses in the Qur'an (Koran) advocating the use of violence to spread Islam.  There are exactly 123 verses in the Qur'an about killing and fighting.

The word "Islam" has been falsely proclaimed by Muslims to mean peace. The word Islam, actually means "submission" to the Muslim god of intolerance and hatred. It comes from the root Arabic word "taslim". In Arabic, the word for peace is only "solh".    When a Muslim declares that Islam is a religion of peace, he/she is either ignorant of the Koran (Qur'an), or is deceitfully thinking of this "peace", as it extends only to those within the Muslim Community.  The deceit is that they will not tell you exactly what they mean.

According to the Qur'an: "Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah.  Those who follow him are merciful to one another, but ruthless to unbelievers"  Surah 48:29.  "Kill the Mushrikun (unbelievers) wherever you find them, and capture them and besiege them, and lie in wait for them in each and every ambush..." Surah 9:5. Also see Surah 9:29:  PICKTHAL: "Fight against such of those who have been given the Scripture (Christians & Jews) as believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, and forbid not that which Allah hath forbidden by His messenger, and follow not the Religion of Truth, until they pay the tribute readily, being brought low.". Please note that there is not a single verse in the entire Christian Bible that contains this "open-ended", universal command to kill/or be ruthless to unbelievers.

  • Go take that hijab back to the country it came from... go complain to them about your injustices and see how long it takes them to backhand you and beat your ass.  You should be thanking America & God for being here.  Stop playing the victim.  But as we all now... this is how they will bleed our systems dry by suing and "trying" to take over.  Step aside....

  • I, as an official who has been officiating high school basketball for the last 5 years, can say I have to agree with the officials on this one.  NFHS president said, " Unfortunately the officials made a strict interpretation of the [...] playing rules for basketball instead of the spirit of the rule designed to ensure safety and competitive fairness."    I can see where there would be a concern for safety.  Not only hers, but also the other players on the playing floor. I think the officials made the right decision here.

  • By Shari'a Law, women have no rights. By Shari'a Law, women aren't afforded an education, the ability to drive a vehicle, the ability to make their voices heard, or the privilege of participating in sporting events. So, if this young lady is claiming to be Muslim just so she can wear a head scarf she's sorely mistaken. She should not have been allowed to play, or even join the team, period!

  • This is such bull. I a, sick and tired of hearing how Muslims must be the exception to the rules and if they arnt its discrimination. Just bc the other refs didn't follow the rules they need to be changed when one finally did? No. Just no. she was not discriminated against bc of her religion. It states that exeptions will be made for religious and other reasons if it's in writing given to state before the game she didn't do that so she didn't get to play. The coach knew the rules, I'm sure the girl did too bc they let her wear it. I'm sure the other refs thought she got the exception bc most would have already done so at that point. Follow the damn rules like everyone else or don't play. This was set up to once again force our laws and rules to bend to their will.  They are trying to mak itlike this ref and organization are discriminatory and bigoted which is their race card they throw down when ever they don't get their way. It's bs and they better not change the rule bc it was there in black and white long before this girl are around. File it now for next year and you will be good to go. It's not like she didn't have the paperwork showing it's been approved she didn't follow the rules period.

  • Td, you are correct! A muslim woman is to dress from head to toe as to not show anything but her face and her hands, only blood related men and her husband are allowed to see her uncovered, to protect her dignity. Just like in other religions, some choose not to cover, just like all the Catholic nuns choose not to dress like they used to 40+ years ago. No one made a big deal of that, so why choose to make one now? Leave this young woman alone just because she chooses to follow her religion closely, she isn't harming anyone by protecting her dignity.

  • OH NO.... Run for the hills, CAIR is involved. Who give a sh*t? Even though I think that they should have informed this young lady sooner in the season, I don't understand why they think that the rules need to be changed to suit one person! No where in their bible does it state that a burka or hijab must be worn! This has only come into play in the last few decades, Muslim men wanting to control women!

  • This player is a political activist or is being influenced to make an issue of this. Rules are there to be followed. She wants to play the game then follow the rules. Christians can't where their crosses in any form any more around activities. So why is it so important to give this religion any kind of special treatment!  Quit making such a mockery of all this great country stands for.
