Sharpen has exposed himself and his true colors, he is another communist sympathizer, all these communist countries have implemented their regime for over a century, communism is a proven failure.

Communism is giving you soul to the devil, true communism has already killed thousands of people in this world, only low lifes freeloaders losers, think communism is a panacea.

Sharpen the more comments you make the more foolish you sound, I was born in a socialist country, I know first hand what I'm talking about, I also met a Cuban (communist country) that became a good friend, she came to USA on a boat, she was on the ocean for weeks, they were detained in Guantanamo bay for a year, all her family and everyone in Cuba has to work by force to farm Fidel Castro's land, everything belongs to Fidel nothing belongs to them, they have to survive working on the black market. And they are prisioners on their own country.

In a socialist country, only the smartest get "free education" (one has to pay with community service), you most likely won't qualify.

I read the "Communist Manifesto" in High school because is mandatory, is the most disgusting book ever, also  I read "El Capital".

You are an ignorant neophyte fool, your an indoctrinated idiot, another failure of the school system.

TRUE COMMUNISM is total rhetoric! Per Karl Marx: "True communism is the end-game, in which the workers of the world have overthrown the ruling classes and established a society based on the idea of a classless, stateless society." - BULLSHIT! ... he continues: "The central tenet of communism is that all private property should be abolished. In a true communist society, no one would own anything. All property and all means of agricultural and industrial production would be collectively owned by society as a whole. Each member of a true communist society would be expected to contribute as able and would be allowed to take what needed."  MORE BULLSHIT!!!  It looks and sounds good on paper (IF ONE HAS NO COMMONSENSE) but the problem is that society would have to become Stepford wives, husbands, sons, daughters, etc etc etc....  In reality - and trust me on this - SOMEONE(s) SOMEWHERE(s) are getting stinking rich with all the Stepfords just existing!  It doesn't exist in "real life" nor will it ever because it welds too much power to the SOMEONES SOMEWHERES and destroys any inalienable rights of humanity.  WHY would ANYONE WANT to just exist without HOPE for a better future????

Oh I see John Sharpensteen - you are living your short life on this earth behind those rose-colored glasses of a perfect world.  There has not been a perfect world since the Garden of Eden was destroyed by the the first woman who couldn't keep her greedy hands from the ONE tree of hundreds, that she was told not to touch....and from there it snowballed infecting both genders of humanity and humanity has ceased to exist....almost...

You really need to take off those glasses and face reality....just sayin'

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones.

Undoubtedly, this young man's demise at twenty-two was aided in part or totally, I suspect the latter. A message to all those of the leftist plague; the anti-America, anti-Democracy pukes... those of the Marxist Brigade bent on the ruination of this Constitutional Republic... North Korea apparently meets your political agenda and diktat: please do us all a favor, book a flight immediately, one-way, of course. You will not be missed.

TBetti, it wasn't a hippie song. It was an anti-war song. There is a line in the song that goes"only God has the right to decide who is to live or die"thus the reason I mentioned the song. The singer. Tommy James was/is a believer. God 's laws and dominion applies to everyone.

While my heart goes out to family and friends There has to be some discussion about responsibility and caution in rouge countries like NK. This young man, either thru ignorance or whatever, you just DO NOT rip posters off walls, take items from rooms or where ever. Your setting yourself up for a bad fall. I don't know if the trip was planned and arranged by U of V or what. It should have been instilled in everyone's mind don't take what isn't yours, PERIOD. Especially in countries not friendly toward USA. The sad ending to this one is he paid the ultimate price. A sad ending.

THANK YOU SHARPENSTEEN. YOU HAVE RELEASED YOUR TRUE COLORS. I don't care how many credits you have earned or what you claim your IQ is. You are stupid. And your comments prove it. As for your perfect communist  utopia , nothing is perfect. So it can never be achieved. And so the world creates the communist societies that exsist. Which are the cesspool and hell hole failures to the people that they are. And in all your intellectual genious you should realize this. But since in reality, you are a moron, it is understandable you don't. a big difference between a liberal and a conservative is liberals live in the dream world. Conservatives live in reality. Liberal cry " it should be this way". Conservatives see how things are and work with it. Nice or not.

Mr Sharpensteen, a) my parents escaped with only their lives from Communist Russia during the Revolution in the early 1900s One uncle decided he wanted to be a Communist and he never got out. Years ago my mother cried while watching Dr. Zhivago because she said that was exactly how it happened. The first thing the communists did was to deny anyone ownership of anything. If you owned your house, they either moved you elsewhere or moved others in.No choice. A scene in the movie shows people desparate to evacuate thrown in railroad cars right up against wounded and dying soldiers. My mother was 16 at the time and was next to a soldier who lost an arm and was still bleeding.

      b) You may have a 140 IQ (mine was 142 last time it was checked but probably lost a couple  of points with age) and someone commented that you are essentially "stupid". When you have a good IQ but believe in untruths and propaganda, you would be more accurately labeled "ignorant" . A stupid person can't help themselves and are easily manipulated. An intelligent person is simply "ignorant" of reality.

Mr Sharpensteen, I think I understand what you are trying to communicate, but I just want to clarify one point. If true Communism does not and has not existed anywhere, What is your definition of "true communism" and if it did exist, is that a beneficial thing? And ,yes, I understand what your heritage means since I am Russian Jewish. And I dont think anyone anywhere should be called "stupid" which is why I choose to say "ignorant". It's like the difference between being poor or just broke. Poor is a state of mind. Broke can be fixed.

Did you actually read what I wrote or like everyone else read what you wanted to read. In one of my first comments I made the staement that true communism does not exist on this earth. Not Russia, China nor North Korea. I was not defending any of those countries or any other communist country. I was trying to make a point that true communism is something totally different. I am sorry for what your parents went through but those people were communist in name only (sound familiar) and not communist by actual practice of the theory. How stupid is it that someone reads what has been written and conveyed then reformulates the thoughts in their own minds  into something totally opposite of the thoughts being expressed. I get the "stupid" and worse comment all the time. I know who I am. Names don't bother me. I know no one is interested in this but I am of German-Jewish heritage. You may have an idea of what that means but I doubt many others will.

Was Otto with other students on this trip and was there any warning about going there? Our U.S. youth do not realize the danger of traveling to these countries. They're too spoiled living here. Every day we witness the protests from people who aren't even citizens and they aren't jailed for burning our flag or disrespecting our President.  His family must have so much regret for not discouraging this visit. Very sad for this young naive man and wondering if alcohol played a role in his decision to take that picture.

Everyone should do a little research before they visit foreign countries, in particular the ones where safety might be questionable. I've traveled a lot on business, and have found that the US State Department's website has a lot of good information on it, from what shots you need, to information on local customs and laws, and travel warnings. Many of the places I've traveled to on business I wouldn't consider going to as a tourist. Unless you are working with locals, you can get in serious trouble (just about anywhere including here) by walking into the wrong part of town. In North Korea, you can break laws by doing things that we would never consider a problem here, with dire consequences. Just read their travel warning and you won't go. As a tourist, North Korea has about the same appeal to me as Somalia.
