A Protester Who Shamed Kirstjen Nielsen Out of Mexican Restaurant Works for the Trump Administration

One of the protesters who heckled Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen at a Mexican restaurant was Allison Hrabar, who works as a paralegal at the Department of Justice.

On Tuesday evening, protesters belonging to a local chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) shouted at Nielsen for about 10 minutes before she left the restaurant.

“No borders! No walls! Sanctuary for all!” the chant included.

According to the Washington Examiner, DSA member Hrabar participated in the protest and works at the Department of Justice as a paralegal specialist.

She told the news outlet that it “feels really good to confront people who are actually responsible” for families being separated at the border.

“If you see these people in public, you should remind them that they shouldn’t have peace,” she encouraged.

Hrabar added that she hopes that the confrontation with Nielsen will inspire others to confront DHS or Immigration and Customs Enforcement employees they see out to dinner as well.

“When you confront [people with financial] capital — and a lot of people who live in D.C. work for powerful people — it can be kind of scary, but we think it’s important to put ourselves on the line,” she explained.

The release of Hrabar’s employer drew ire from some on social media who called for her firing.

While Hrabar is a government employee, she told the Washington Examiner that the protest was done on her own time and that she was simply exercising her First Amendment right outside of work hours.
