U.S. President Donald Trump spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday about a possible mutual defense treaty between the two nations, Trump tweeted ahead of Israeli elections next week.

“I had a call today with Prime Minister Netanyahu to discuss the possibility of moving forward with a Mutual Defense Treaty, between the United States and Israel, that would further anchor the tremendous alliance between our two countries,” Trump tweeted, adding that he looks forward to continuing those discussions after the Israeli vote.

I think it is a good idea. Israel has been a balance in he middle east. I support Trump on this decision. They have been our friend of many years.

Appears only those who support anti-Semitism and joining Muslim Reps., Omar and Tlaib would be against an agreement to help our ally – Israel – in case of her need.

Would be a good idea to have a treaty with them. We have or have had Treaties with many other Countries in the past putting the US at primarily Communist front door. So a Treaty with Israel would really be no different except instead of Communists front door it will be Muslims front door.

Agree, a good idea.

What Trump ought to do is get Saudi Arabia, and possibly Egypt and/or Jordan, to sign a MD treaty. They are ALL threatened by Iranian insurgency in Syria, Yemen, Lebanon as Iranian attempts to play Risk in the real world.

The enemy of my enemy and all that. Unfortunately the US will need to be the linchpin in this arrangement just like NATO.

To enter the U.S. in a defense treaty with Israel is a risky proposition. Let’s hope this is simply Trump’s latest attempt to get Bibi the coalition he needs. Great time for one of those Saturday Trump v Wednesday Trump scenarios. How many IJR readers are prepared to send their sons/grandsons and daughters/granddaughters off to the Middle East to defend Bibi’s warmongering?

I totally agree with the idea of this treaty! Israel has a very good military and I love their people. I also agree with the premise of Russia joining.

These are God’s people as are we. They have been trampled on way too often. Thumb our nose at them and see how God likes that. Not taking any chances. Israel is the promised land of the Jews, not the Palestinians.
