Spending Thanksgiving at his private Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, President Donald Trump talked with members of military branches who are across the world on Thanksgiving Day, celebrating their dedication to the country.

“HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!” the president tweeted the morning of Thanksgiving.

“I say to our great, great warriors, hello and happy Thanksgiving,” Trump said as he opened up the teleconference with the “great patriots” around the world who are celebrating the holiday overseas.

“Your courage truly inspires us,” Trump told the members of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and U.S. Coast Guard — adding that he and the first lady share their “profound gratitude” for their service.

“It’s nice to know you’re fighting and you’re fighting for something that’s doing well,” the president said, sharing that the nation is doing well economically. “That’s our country.”

One service member explained that he is among over 4,800 sailors and airmen who are deployed on the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan — currently located at Victoria Harbor in Hong Kong.

“We wish you a happy Thanksgiving,” the service member told the president over the phone.

“Happy Thanksgiving to you,” Trump responded.

Talking with a lieutenant colonel on Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force, the president said they are the “embodiment of honor and courage and commitment.”

He specifically congratulated them on the work they’ve done to “crush ISIS from the air and from the ground.”

“Big, big progress has been made,” Trump said. “[…] You have shown incredible courage, and I have to say, you’ve shown great, great leadership.”

He spoke to the Air Force commander in the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing for his “outstanding work.”

“I have to say, General, it’s great to speak to you by teleconference and by phone because you’re reputation is an incredible one,” Trump said.

Trump then discussed his appreciation for all of the military branches:

“I want to thank you all for serving today. We thank God for the blessings of having you people be our heroes — and you really are our heroes — and your families are back here, and they love you, and they respect you, and they look forward to seeing you.

You’re the ones who keep America safe and strong and free. You do a job like nobody else, and it is really great respect that we all have.”

The president also threw in a joke to the reporters, telling them at the resort, “Welcome to the southern White House.”

First lady Melania Trump also shared her gratefulness for families and service members across the U.S. and beyond on Thanksgiving.

“Wishing you all a very happy Thanksgiving! As we give thanks, let’s keep those who can’t be with their families in our thoughts today,” she wrote on Twitter.

During his presidential Thanksgiving Day address, the president honored those who “selflessly serve and protect our Nation”:

“Because of the men and women in uniform who volunteer to defend our liberty, we are able to enjoy the splendor of the American life. We pray for their safety, and for the families who await their return.”

Trump tweeted that he will also be going on Thanksgiving Day to “see our Coast Guard patriots & to thank them for the great job they have been doing, especially with the hurricanes.”
