2020 Democratic presidential candidate Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) is one of the few members of the extremely crowded Democratic field who has not said that he supports impeaching President Donald Trump.
But Swalwell isn’t willing to let the president’s entire administration off easy. During a Tuesday interview on “The View,” he called for the impeachment of Attorney General William Barr and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin.
Swalwell noted that if Trump were to be impeached, he would have to try the case because he sits on the House Judiciary Committee.
“I’ve called for immediately impeaching Barr and Mnuchin — I think they’re front-door obstructors, and they’re holding, burying the evidence that we need,” the California lawmaker said. “I firmly believe as a former prosecutor, no one is above the law.”
Swalwell then compared the behavior of the members of Trump’s administration to his young child throwing a tantrum.

Almost all of the other candidates have publicly called for Trump’s impeachment, so much so that it’s become something of a litmus test within this campaign.
Among the front-runners, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has said that he believes “the Judiciary Committee should begin impeachment inquiries,” while Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said that the Mueller report “leaves it up to Congress to act — and that’s impeachment.”
Unfortunately for Swalwell, he’s still very far behind in the polls. But he has broken through enough to make it onto the debate stage, where he will have the opportunity to prove himself in this crowded field.
The congressman’s big issue — in Washington and now on the trail — has been gun control. He highlighted the issue during his speech announcing his entry into the race. During his Tuesday appearance on “The View,” Swalwell also talked about guns and brought up the shooting in Virginia Beach where over 10 people were killed.
“Ban and buy back every single assault weapon in America,” he told the hosts. “I’m the only candidate calling for that.”
