‘Everybody Hurts’ as Trump Trolls Dems, Romney With Video Mocking Their Lack of Cheering at SOTU

Following the signing of a government spending bill to avert another shutdown and his declaration of a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border on Friday, President Donald Trump took aim at his Democratic decriers — and Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) — on Twitter.

Set to the sweet, melancholic song “Everybody Hurts” by R.E.M., the president showcased his more vocal opponents’ lack of enthusiasm at the State of the Union address earlier this month in a since-deleted video posted to his official Twitter account.

Many Democratic politicians — including Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) — were all shown in the two-minute-long video sitting silently and unmoving during the State of the Union.

Additionally, Romney is depicted near the end of the video as well, clapping, but not standing as the camera zooms in on him.

Watch the video, which was later shared by one of the president’s supporters, below:

In a previous statement to IJR, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) weighed in on the Democrats’ reactions during the State of the Union:

“There were so many opportunities where everybody should have joined in, but you can still see that some Democrats who supported things like a wall and physical barriers to secure our border before President Trump are against it now because President Trump is for it.

Some people just want to oppose everything that Trump supports even if it’s good for the country. They’ve got to think bigger than that.”

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) similarly called out female Democrats for applauding themselves, but not many of the American values Trump touched on in his speech.

The comedic tweet follows the president’s declaration of a national emergency at the southern border as well as his signing of a government spending bill that averted another potential government shutdown.

Mr. Trump said he would build a wall, he got elected as president, to me that means that people who have worked hard all their lives are tired of giving free money to illegals. Why can’t the Democrats get this. If the wall doesn’t get built then everyone in our government should be force to tear down the walls and fences that surround their mansions. Build the wall.
