Ex-Combat Pilot Amy McGrath Challenges Republican McConnell for Senate

Amy McGrath, a former U.S. Marine combat pilot whose compelling biography drew national attention during an unsuccessful Democratic congressional campaign last year, said on Tuesday that she will challenge Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in 2020.

In a video announcing her campaign for the U.S. Senate in Kentucky, McGrath, 44, described writing a letter at age 13 to her senator, telling McConnell she wanted to become a fighter pilot even though women were barred from combat at the time – a story she also highlighted when running for the U.S. House of Representatives last year.

“I’ve often wondered how many other people did Mitch McConnell never take the time to write back, or even think about,” she said, before accusing McConnell of turning his back on his constituents.

In response, McConnell’s campaign released its own video using McGrath’s own words – including calling Republican President Donald Trump’s proposed border wall “stupid” and defending abortion rights – to portray her as too liberal for Kentucky, a state that Trump carried by 30 percentage points in 2016.

McConnell, who has served as one of Kentucky’s two U.S. senators for 35 years, has been the leader of Senate Republicans since 2007.

Despite middling approval ratings, he easily prevailed during his last campaign in 2014 over then-Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Grimes.

McGrath spent 20 years in the Marines, flying 89 combat missions. She narrowly lost to Republican U.S. Representative Andy Barr in November.

For the IJR posters that have reversed their stance on term limits, I assure you that you are not alone. Donald Trump’s pledge in 2016 in his 5 point plan to end corruption. “If I am elected president, I will push for a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on all members of Congress.” DJT on 7/9/2019, “Why would Kentucky ever think of giving up the most powerful position in Congress for a freshman Senator with little power.” For the record, it was not his first flip flop on term limits–he endorsed Rep Bill Shuster in 2016 for a 9th… Read more »

I find it amusing that all the posters that CLAIM to be in favor of TERM LIMITS are overlooking the fact that McConnell is seeking his SEVENTH term as a U.S. Senator.

A woman claiming she was ignored/forgotten/abused/disrespected. How unusual. Not! This is what Democrats are running on now, “I’m an abused woman, vote for me.” No qualifications except she hates Trump and wants to obstruct the administration.

Plainly a person running for office wants to put their best foot forward, use their resumé for their benefit, even vote for themself and peers at the polls, but it all comes down to the constituents. Are you good enough, smart enough, and doggone it. do people like you?

McGrath is selling EXACTLY to her target audience. “I was a victim” sells only to followers of one party and it isn’t the Republican’ts.

Am I the only one to think “pity me” is a poor platform? Where’s the positivity? Where’s the identification? Not a lot of people feel sorry for themselves and consider themselves victims except the Dims.

I’m betting her rejection story is made up. We could claim that Bill Clinton fathered our children thirty years ago(allowing for the Julian Castro insanity of men getting pregnant). Where’s the evidence.

“Justice Kavanagh fondled me even though there are NO witnesses, no address, nor means of transport, etc.”

Sending donations directly to Mitch. He may be a RINO but he’s better then any leftie and he’s done his job getting judges approved! Anyone that supports Trump needs to support GOP candidates or this country will fully flush. It almost did. SAVE AMERICA & SUPPORT THE RIGHT!
