Jimmy Fallon has a lot to talk about on “The Tonight Show” — and politics has never been high on the list.

Fallon briefly spoke about politics and late-night shows during an interview CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street” Tuesday, Mediaite reported.

“Our show has never really been that political, you know. We hit both sides equally and try to make everybody laugh, and that’s really the way our show works,” Fallon said. “Our monologues are kind of the same that we’ve been doing since Johnny Carson was hosting ‘The Tonight Show.’ So really, I just keep my head down and make sure the jokes are funny. I have great writers, — clever, smart writers. And we’re just trying to make the best possible show we can and entertain everybody.”

Watch on YouTube:

Fallon’s words come following Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension and return to ABC on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” The show and host were pulled from the airwaves by ABC and Disney after Kimmel spike about the man who killed Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

“The MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said during his monologue on Sept. 15.

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr believed Kimmel’s comment should result in a suspension. Hours later, Kimmel was suspended — much to the delight of President Donald Trump.

ABC announced on Sept. 22 that Kimmel’s suspension was lifted and he returned to the airwaves Sept. 23.

Upon his return, Kimmel did not apologize for What he said, but instead gave a shout-out to Free Speech.

Kirk’s executive producer, Andrew Kolvet, called Kimmel an “unrepentant liar.”

Fallon said it is not an accident that his show is light on politics compared to other late-night show hosts Kimmel, Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers.

“It’s just what I do,” Fallon said in 2017 about talking politics in his show.  “I think it’d be weird for me to start doing it now.”
