A New York Police Department sergeant has been killed and another officer wounded in a shoot out with the suspect of a home invasion robbery.
CBS2 New York reports that the officers responded to a robbery in the Bronx not too far away from the zoo.
Witnesses told the officers that the suspect drove away. The cops ID’d the car and had pulled over the suspected bad guy, when he reportedly opened fire on them.

One officer, struck in the head, arrived at Jacobi Medical Center in “grave” condition, later dying of his injuries. The other officer was hit in the legs, but his injuries aren’t thought to be life-threatening.
The suspect is also dead.

The shooting occurred in broad daylight near Noble Avenue and Bronx River Avenue in the Bronx about 3 o’clock Friday afternoon.
As NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio put it:
“The city is in mourning and the NYPD is in mourning.”
The identities of the officers haven’t been released yet.
