The FBI is now probing reports of at least 10 missing or dead scientists and staff working in U.S. nuclear or space technology.

In a statement provided to the Daily Caller News Foundation on Tuesday, the FBI confirmed it is “spearheading the effort to look for connections into the missing and deceased scientists.” The probe comes after recent reports that at least ten U.S. researchers and scientists have died or gone missing over the past 33 months, raising speculation about the circumstances of the cases.

The FBI also told the DCNF that it is “working with the Department of Energy, Department of War, and with our state and state and local law enforcement partners to find answers.”

NASA spokesperson Bethany Stevens said in a Monday X post that the agency is “coordinating and cooperating with the relevant agencies in relation to the missing scientists.”

“At this time, nothing related to NASA indicates a national security threat,” Stevens continued. “The agency is committed to transparency and will provide more information as able.”

On Monday, the House Oversight Committee similarly launched an investigation into the reports of the deceased and missing scientists, The New York Post reported.

Should the FBI continue its investigation into the deaths and disappearances of scientists at government labs?

Committee Chair James Comer wrote in a Monday post to X that 11 “of America’s top nuclear and rocket scientists go missing and there’s been no real explanation,” adding “something about this doesn’t add up.”

When asked about the recent reports of scientists winding up either dead or missing, President Donald Trump told reporters on Thursday “I hope it’s random,” USA Today reported.

“Pretty serious stuff … Hopefully, I don’t know, coincidence, whatever you want to call it,” Trump added. “But some of them were very important people, and we’re going to look at it over the next short period.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed in an April 17 social media post that the White House “is actively working with all relevant agencies and the FBI to holistically review all of the cases together and identify any potential commonalities that may exist.”

She added that “no stone will be unturned in this effort, and the White House will provide updates when we have them.”
