A group of students advocating for the Green New Deal approached Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) to urge her to support the deal introduced by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), but the 15 middle and high schoolers ended up being scolded by the California Democrat — and she’s now trying to walk back on her “smugness.”
The students involved with the Sunrise Movement tried to push Feinstein “to vote yes on the Green New Deal” for climate change when Feinstein seemed to lecture the kids in return “with smugness + disrespect.”

The senator told the children that “we have our own Green New Deal.”
“You know what’s interesting about this group?” Feinstein said. “I’ve been doing this for 30 years. I know what I’m doing.
“You come in here, and you say it has to be my way or the highway. I don’t respond to that,” she added. “I’ve gotten elected, I just ran. I was elected by almost a million-vote plurality. And I know what I’m doing. So, you know, maybe people should listen a little bit.”
During part of the conversion:
FEINSTEIN: “How old are you?”
GIRL: “I’m 16. I can’t vote.”
FEINSTEIN: “Well, you didn’t vote for me.”
ANOTHER GIRL: “It doesn’t matter, we’re the ones who are going to be impacted!”

Feinstein later addressed the incident in a statement, saying she heard the children “loud and clear”:
Unfortunately, it was a brief meeting but I want the children to know they were heard loud and clear. I have been and remain committed to doing everything I can to enact real, meaningful climate change legislation.
We had a spirited discussion and I presented the group with my draft resolution that provides specific responses to the climate change crisis, which I plan to introduce soon. I always welcome the opportunity to hear from Californians who feel passionately about this issue and it remains a top priority of mine.
Ocasio-Cortez, a self-described democratic socialist, responded on Friday to Charlotte Clymer of the Human Rights Campaign who said if there’s someone who has a better deal than Ocasio-Cortez’s, then “please show it.”
Ocasio-Cortez told her colleagues to “come up with your own ambitious, on-scale proposal to address the global climate crisis,” claiming she’s apparently in charge in the meantime.
The freshman Democrat seemed to take aim at Feinstein, who has held a seat in the Senate since 1992.
“Until then, we’re in charge – and you’re just shouting from the cheap seats,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter.
Yup. If you don’t like the #GreenNewDeal, then come up with your own ambitious, on-scale proposal to address the global climate crisis.

On the Green New Deal, Ocasio-Cortez finally shared the awaited explanation of the deal’s goal to “fully get rid of farting cows,” as IJR Red reported.
“… We need to take a look at factory farming, period. It’s wild,” she told Showtime’s “Desus & Mero” on Thursday.
“And so, it’s not to say you get rid of agriculture. It’s not to say we’re going to force everybody to go vegan or anything crazy like that,” Ocasio-Cortez added. “But it’s to say, listen, we’ve got to address factory farming. Maybe we shouldn’t be eating a hamburger for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Like, let’s keep it real.”
