First lady Melania Trump believes the children of today need to be prepared for what the future holds â including the prevalence of artificial intelligence in education.
A second task force on the subject was held Thursday afternoon with Trump at the helm, per Mediaite.
Education Secretary Linda McMahon was also in attendance.
âThe robots are here,â Trump said.
She went on to explain how it is necessary to welcome new and evolving technology in the classroom.
âWe are living in a moment of wonder, and it is our responsibility to prepare children in America,â the first lady said. âCars now steer themselves through our cities; robots hold steady hands in the operating room; and drones are redefining the future of war. Innovations of first-generation humanoids, factory automation, and autonomous vehicles have surged from private sector investment. Every one of these advancements, itâs powered by AI.â
âThe robots are here. Our future is no longer science fiction,â she added.
She then spoke about economics and AI.
âAI innovation is clearly boosting Americaâs GDP growth,â she said, citing data provided from the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
âBut as leaders and parents, we must manage AIâs growth responsibly,â Trump continued. âDuring this primitive stage, it is our duty to treat AI as we we would our own children â empowering but with watchful guidance.â
This was her first public appearance since July 13, per CNN.
She has spoken about both the pros and cons of technology.
She recently promoting a presidential AI competition for school students.
She also led a hand in d passing the âTake It Down Act,â legislation. This is aimed at protecting Americans from deepfake and revenge pornography.
âAs someone who created an AI-powered audio book and championed online safety through the Take It Down Act, Iâve seen firsthand the promise of this powerful technology,â she said in a video.
