Fmr Assemblyman Slams California Governor for Blaming State’s Homeless Crisis on Texas

Former California state assemblyman Chuck DeVore (R) clocked California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) for casting blame on Texas for California’s homeless crisis.

“The vast majority [of San Francisco’s homeless people] also come in from — and we know this — from Texas,” Newsom claimed during an interview with Axios in June. “Just [an] interesting fact.”

Asked during Wednesday’s interview with “Fox & Friends” how this could be “Texas’ fault,” DeVore, who now resides in Texas, responded, “I think what you’re seeing here are the words of a desperate man we should almost feel sorry for.”

“He had responsibility for the policies that have created California’s homeless crisis,” DeVore added — Newsom was the mayor of San Fransisco between 2004 and 2011.

“San Francisco has this program where they give bus tickets to people who say they have friends or relatives that can take care of them, take them in. Of the people who go out-of-state, the number one destination is Texas, for 6.7% of the people in San Francisco. They have friends or relatives that, in Texas, that have agreed to take care of them. That doesn’t mean majority of the homeless in San Francisco come from Texas. It means that Texas is a popular destination as it is for all Californians like myself.”

DeVore pointed to three things that California’s homelessness crisis boils down to: expensive housing, a “[botched] criminal justice reform,” and a mental illness problem.

In January of 2019, the homeless count in San Fransisco was 8,011 people, which is a 17 percent increase from the year prior, according to a report.

As PolitiFact California suggests, Newsom’s blame on the state of Texas for his state’s problem is “a ridiculous claim.”

Watch the video below:

As IJR Red reported, a salon owner in California recently went viral after posting a video showing her clear distaste of Newsom’s leadership amid the state’s homeless crisis — which has caused her to now relocate her business after 15 years.

“I want to know what are you going to do for us Californians?” Elizabeth Novak questioned Newsom in the video.

What do you think?

Are liberals, communists, and democrats EVER responsible for ANYTHING? A common trait is blaming others. This reminds me of the early 80’s when Sr. Cuomo blamed the right, ran on the “7000 homeless people in NY” and he was the only one fit to cure the problem . . . And 8 short years later, there were almost 28,000 homeless in NY.

OK, so let’s say Texas steps in and takes 5-6% of the San Fran homeless… NOW who do they blame for the remaining homeless?

The same immature, risk-averse psychology which wants government to run everything ALWAYS avoids responsibility.

It’s literally people who never grew up and who will always say “it wasn’t my fault”. Notice how they glorify “victims”. Notice how they want the government to become their new parent. It’s infantile. Feed me, clothe me, make sure I don’t get sick.

They are literally retarded children.

Gov. Goodhair has been a SF pol for over 20 years. He’s done nothing to reduce the homeless issues.

Several sources, including UK’s The Guardian, have shown the majority of homeless in CA are FROM CA. They did NOT track the # of homeless due to CA’s idiot regulatory and environmental policies. They’ve also tracked CA’s efforts to export its problems to wait for it…..TX and other states.

Yet they come back to CA because of good weather, tons of free stuff/services, and a system which fails in many ways.

It’s always someone else fualt. That’s the problem with the demwits , instead of taking care of the problem it’s just easier to blame someone else. They are very good at that. They can’t take care of the homeless and yet they want all the illegals to come here. How will they take care of them? Oooo that’s right rise taxes.

Newsom is a sad case – Not content with destroying a city, he’s trying to out Jerry Brown by destroying California. By the way, isn’t Tijuana right across the border and not far from San Diego? I don’t think Texas had any part in that.

As if he didn’t do a bad enough job as mayor of SF, he somehow got voted in to take his brand of homeless coddling to the state level. What’s his next move? No doubt he wants to bring his “expertise” in botching city and state management to the entire US!

California is controlled and has been for many years by liberals. Newsom is a big liberal. He was mayor of SF. As a result of his fine leadership the city is full of homeless people and in many places it is so full of human feces you have to be careful where you walk. Now Newsom is Gov. of Ca. This state is going down the toilet–even further than it was before Newsom. Now who will he blame? Trump! Probably.
