Two former intelligence officials explained why they believe that former acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe is an “embarrassment” and damaged the reputation of the intelligence community following his revelation that they considered using the 25th Amendment to remove President Donald Trump from office.
As IJR previously reported, McCabe told “60 Minutes” host Scott Pelley that he and his fellow law enforcement officials in the Department of Justice (DOJ) strategized a way to invoke the 25th Amendment to get rid of Trump following his 2016 election.
Many people have expressed their outrage about the situation, even going as far as comparing it to a “bureaucratic coup.”
Former FBI assistant director for intelligence Kevin Brock and former deputy assistant director of the counterterrorism division Terry Turchie explained that McCabe’s actions damaged the reputation of the intelligence community as a whole, due to his “clear bias.”
Brock and Turchie explained their frustration during an interview with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham.
“It’s a huge embarrassment,” said Brock. “For former FBI agents, and I’ve heard from a lot of current FBI agents right now that what Andrew McCabe is doing, what he did last night [on ’60 Minutes’] further misled the American people and actually manipulated the American people because, now, suddenly he’s a victim.”
Brock explained that he thinks McCabe tried to paint himself as a martyr because of his rough exit from the bureau after being fired for leaking documents and then lying about leaking the documents to DOJ officials.
“After perpetrating, along with [former FBI Director] Jim Comey, severe damage to the FBI because of their, now that we know, clear bias, [McCabe is] going on a book tour to sell books,” said Brock.
Turchie explained that McCabe’s behavior made his “blood boil.”
“It is embarrassing and it is just egregious,” said Turchie. “I never thought in my lifetime, I’d see this.”
Turchie noted that the recently-confirmed Attorney General Bill Barr will have his hands full cleaning up the mess left by McCabe. He also claimed that the leftward trend in the Democratic Party is partially to blame.
“A lot of people may not want to get into this discussion, as we have a political party, the Democratic party turning harder and harder left, which in itself is a major national security risk, we also do not know exactly, to this day, exactly what happened in the FBI or whether it still exists in the FBI, these kind of issues. Perhaps people appointed by McCabe before he left. […] People need to know who orchistrated all of this.”
Brock explained that the only collision he has seen evidence for is the collusion between James Comey and Andrew McCabe to remove Trump from office.
“I have already appealed in articles to the new attorney general to launch an investigation into the actions of James Comey and Andrew McCabe,” said Brock. “These two colluded and fed off each other’s biases to do a lot of damage to the FBI.”
