Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) drew strong support and cheers for his “Medicare for All” proposal from the audience at a Fox News town hall on Monday.

Sanders, the first Democratic presidential candidate to appear on a Fox News town hall so far, thanked everyone for watching and pushed the message that even in this time of divisive politics, there are still many common interests shared by the majority of Americans.

The senator discussed his hallmark proposal, Medicare for All, and when put to the test of how many Americans support it, the presidential candidate seemingly prevailed in having convinced voters of his plan.

Asked by Fox News moderator Bret Baier to address their willingness to transition to Sanders’ proposed health care system, the audience immediately started clapping and cheering to endorse the idea.

“Millions of people every single year lose their health insurance. You know why? They get fired, or they quit, and they go to another employer,” the Vermont senator explained. “[…] Every year, millions of workers wake up in the morning, and their employer has changed the insurance that they have.

“Maybe they like their doctors,” Sanders said, arguing his proposal would foster more stability between the American people and their health care providers.

“Now, what we’re talking about actually is stability, that when you have a Medicare for All, it is there now, and it will be there in the future,” the presidential candidate added, meeting applause from the audience.

The senator went on to share alarming statistics, noting that around 30 million people have no insurance, tens of millions of people are underinsured, and an estimated 30,000 Americans die every year because of a lack of medical access. He added that despite all of this, America still pays twice as much per capita for health care compared to other countries.

Sanders then threw a question at the audience, asking them: “Do you think it makes sense to spend twice as much per capita as the people of any other nation and be the only country in the world not to guarantee health care for all people?”
