Garth Brooks Gets to Texas Only to Be Reminded Who the ‘King of Country Music’ Is

When Garth Brooks arrived in San Antonio, Texas, as part of his world tour a few days ago, he was clearly excited to be in the home state of his idol George Strait.

My San Antonio reports that Brooks enthusiastically told the press:

“It’s going to be real emotional and real exciting. We’re at the home of the king,” he said. “You guys might take living this close and breathing the same air as King George for granted. But for me, it’s pretty cool. Just to know that these are his stomping grounds. That’s what I want to be when I grow up.”

So it comes as no surprise that Brooks shared with fans a little reminder he got of whose home turf he was on…

The tweet reads:

“Gotta love San Antone 🙂 Home of the King! love, g #GarthInSanAntonio”

George Strait, also known as the “King of Country Music,” was born in Poteet, Texas.

There’s no denying that Strait has earned his title as king. In his 30+ year career, he has racked up a record breaking 60 number-one hits on country radio. According to Strait’s official website, that’s more than any artist in any genre.

For perspective, The Beatles hold the top ranking spot in pop music with 20 hits. Brooks has had 25 singles hit the number one spot during his career.

Yep, George Strait’s the King of Country Music all right.
