Gillum Calls Out DeSantis in Final Florida Governor’s Debate: ‘The Racists Believe He’s a Racist’

There was no shortage of personal attacks in the final Florida gubernatorial debate on Wednesday, but Democratic nominee Andrew Gillum delivered one of the sharpest attacks of the night.

“Well, let me first say — my grandmother used to say, ‘a hit dog will holler,'” Gillum said of his opponent, former Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.). “And it hollered through this room.”

The video clip, shared by Gillum’s campaign on Twitter, has been retweeted over 30,000 times:

Gillum slammed DeSantis for connections with racist groups:

“Mr. DeSantis has spoken. First of all, he’s got neo-Nazis helping him out in this state. He has spoken at racist conferences. He’s accepted a contribution — and would not return it — from someone who referred to the former president of the United States as a Muslim n-i-g-g-e-r. When asked to return that money, he said no. He’s using that money to now fund negative ads.”

“Now, I’m not calling Mr. DeSantis a racist,” Gillum said, “I’m simply saying the racists believe he’s a racist.”

DeSantis has disavowed racist robocalls in the state of Florida that are being funded by an Idaho neo-Nazi, but other connections with racists have dogged his campaign.

The candidate also denounced a racist comment from a donor but declined to return the cash. DeSantis accepted over $20,000 from the supporter who targeted former President Barack Obama with a racial slur on Twitter.

After the clip of Gillum’s precision takedown on Wednesday began to circulate on Twitter, DeSantis was widely ridiculed. Many were quick to notice the stunned look on DeSantis’ face in the clip:

Gillum’s strong debate performance also received praise on social media:

With under two weeks until election day, Gillum maintains a slim lead ahead of DeSantis in the polls.

From listening to democrats, I have come to the conclusion that they are the racists.

Gillum no more has an edge in the polls than does Alfred E Neuman. Florida is well aware of his ugly tenure in Tallahassee, one of the Nation’s most unapologetic state capital cities – a hotbed of misconduct in all phases of government, education and politics. As a tadpole in… Read more »

Tallahassee did not be that way. Andrew Gillum is from Miami, I am sure that is where he was weaned on liberal politics and corruption.

One wonders how Gillum knows the racists so well that he can say exactly what they believe, let alone speak for those beliefs. Is he making shit up or just pretending to be Phyllis?

Screwtape my sarcasm meter is not reading very high on your post, on the other hand I know that you are not dumb and don’t know the answer to your own question. But I will tell you just in case you had a momentary brain fade. Andrew Gillum knows exactly… Read more »

It’s basically calling him on his presumptive claim to “know” what he does not. There was a poster named Phyllis who did exactly the same thing. She claimed to “know” exactly why everyone who voted for Trump did so. Since she was neither Charles Xavier or The Shadow I questioned… Read more »

The times are ugly and using race as an issue on either side is uncalled for. False ‘racism’ is the worst of all.
Damn the Klan, the neo-Nazis; damn the Anitifa and BLM. I dare quote deceased Rodney King, “Can’t we all just get along?”

Otisamsonite if you don’t want to quote Rodney King, though he would be a good one to quote, you could go with the Jacob Whitesides song “Why Can’t We All Just Get Along”.
