GOP Lawmakers Slam Dems for Tabling Resolution Condemning Schiff

Al Drago/Reuters

House Republicans slammed their Democratic colleagues after a resolution to condemn and censure Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) was tabled.

The vote was 218-185 with every Republican member against tabling the resolution. Rep. Justin Amash (I-Mich.) joined Democrats in voting to table the resolution.

Republicans have been pushing to censure Schiff after he delivered a “more dramatic” version of Trump’s phone call with Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky, has IJR as previously reported.

House Republican Whip Steve Scalise released a statement saying the Democrats “protected Chairman Schiff from any consequences”:

“I applaud Rep. Andy Biggs’ efforts to hold Chairman Schiff accountable for his actions. Shame on Democrats who, once again, protected Chairman Schiff from any consequences.”

Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), who introduced the bill last month, said Democrats “failed to uphold the integrity of the House of Representatives”:

“I am disappointed that my Democrat colleagues failed to uphold the integrity of the House of Representatives by condemning the actions of Chairman Adam Schiff. An impeachment proceeding to remove a duly elected President is one of the most solemn decisions a Member of Congress may be forced to make in their tenure. Instead of operating with integrity, Adam Schiff misled the American people about the content of the transcript being used to drive the most recent impeachment narrative against President Donald Trump.”

Republican lawmakers took to Twitter to blast the Democrats after the vote:

President Donald Trump thanked the Republicans who “voted for ‘US’ last night”:

Schiff accused Republicans of using the resolution to console themselves for not standing up to Trump:

In a statement, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) called Schiff “a great American patriot” and accused Republicans of trying to “cover up the truth”:

“Chairman Schiff is a great American patriot.  Our country is extremely well-served by his serious, smart and strategic leadership to protect our elections, national security and democracy – which sadly stands in stark contrast to Republicans in the Congress who cover up the truth, look the other way when the President invites foreign governments to interfere in our elections and vote against legislation to secure the ballot from foreign attacks.

Biggs vowed that despite his resolution being tabled, House Republicans will hold Schiff accountable.

11 of what remains of the Republican Party members who crashed this meeting WERE ON THE COMMITTEES holding the investigation meetings. It would have been 12, but one couldn’t join the flash mob. This is all for show.

The impeachment rules were last updated in 2015 under House Leader Boehner. Got a problem with the rules? Take it up with the GOP.

Confused James: “Your problem now is that there are signs of division and you don’t know what to do about it. It is foreign to you, so you lash out and blame others for your predicament.” Me I should have said more clearly that the division that I am talking about is now starting to grow within the conservative community and in what used to be the Republican Party*. That split is finally coming from a resistance to having a wannabe king in the Oval Office is doing and the forest fires he is using to destroy our institutions, society,… Read more »

“Gotta give it to the Dems right or wrong they stick together.” Cherl You are confused and are only repeating King Donald The Loser’s own talking point. ANYBODY who knows ANYTHING about liberals knows that they do NOT stick together. Their best description is: “trying to get liberals to agree on anything is like trying to herd cats”. Conservatives, on the other hand, have the money, infrastructure, and media clout to keep y’all in one cohesive group. Your problem now is that there are signs of division and you don’t know what to do about it. It is foreign to… Read more »

Another case of the Donkey Party protecting – then defending – its’ own. Nothing yet on Gaffe-a-Minute Biden’s with holding (leveraging) $1 Billion from Ukraine until they fired the prosecutor who was investigating corruption (and Biden’s worthless son); the same thing Trump is supposedly being illegally “impeached” for on a much lesser scale. And what about Rep. Katie Hill (D-CA) who had “threesomes” with her now estranged husband and a 22 year old female staff member; and/or her lengthy sexual exploits with a male staffer? The Dimwit Party House’s own Resolution 6 (submitted by Rep. Steny Hoyer) and passed in… Read more »

Since you decided not to include the punchline of my quote AND since the human mind interests you so much… don’t take MY word for this.

contusion-The absolute BEST part of your comment that shows your disconnect with reality, “so you lash out and blame others for your predicament.” Guess you have NEVER heard of hilliarly clinton?

contusion-“ANYBODY who knows ANYTHING about liberals is that they do NOT stick together.” Stupidest thing EVER said here on IJR. What you hear on ONE liberal media outlet is what you hear on ALL liberal media outlets. “Conservatives, on the other hand, have the money, infrastructure, and media clout to keep y’all in one cohesive group.” 2nd Second stupidest EVER said here on IJR. Conservatives have “media clout”? WHERE? WHAT WORLD do you live in? Obviously, you live in “the dimension of imagination”.

Really? I’ve known a few librarians in my life. They are good people.
