House Republicans slammed their Democratic colleagues after a resolution to condemn and censure Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) was tabled.
The vote was 218-185 with every Republican member against tabling the resolution. Rep. Justin Amash (I-Mich.) joined Democrats in voting to table the resolution.
House Republican Whip Steve Scalise released a statement saying the Democrats “protected Chairman Schiff from any consequences”:
“I applaud Rep. Andy Biggs’ efforts to hold Chairman Schiff accountable for his actions. Shame on Democrats who, once again, protected Chairman Schiff from any consequences.”
“I am disappointed that my Democrat colleagues failed to uphold the integrity of the House of Representatives by condemning the actions of Chairman Adam Schiff. An impeachment proceeding to remove a duly elected President is one of the most solemn decisions a Member of Congress may be forced to make in their tenure. Instead of operating with integrity, Adam Schiff misled the American people about the content of the transcript being used to drive the most recent impeachment narrative against President Donald Trump.”
Republican lawmakers took to Twitter to blast the Democrats after the vote:
President Donald Trump thanked the Republicans who “voted for ‘US’ last night”:
Schiff accused Republicans of using the resolution to console themselves for not standing up to Trump:
“Chairman Schiff is a great American patriot. Our country is extremely well-served by his serious, smart and strategic leadership to protect our elections, national security and democracy – which sadly stands in stark contrast to Republicans in the Congress who cover up the truth, look the other way when the President invites foreign governments to interfere in our elections and vote against legislation to secure the ballot from foreign attacks.
Biggs vowed that despite his resolution being tabled, House Republicans will hold Schiff accountable.
