Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) made it clear that he is not going to negotiate over border security with his colleagues that do not respect border security and law enforcement.

During an interview with Face the Nation, Graham went after his colleagues across the aisle for some of their past comments that smeared Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and those who support the wall.

“We’re having to negotiate with people who want to abolish ICE, not support ICE. We’re having to negotiate with people who see the border patrol agents gassing children, rather than defending our borders as professional law enforcement officers, and we’re negotiating with people who will give us one dollar for the wall, even though it’s immoral and accuse all of us who support a wall as part of border security as racists. As long as the radical left is in charge, we’re never going to get anywhere.”

Graham didn’t stop there. He doubled down on his sentiments, claiming that they are not negotiating to reopen the government, their negotiating border security.

“Why would you negotiate with somebody who calls you racist if you want a wall? Who gives you a dollar for a wall when the Democratic Party supported $25 billion in the past. We’re not going to negotiate with people who see the world this way. We’ll negotiate with [Sen.] Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), but I’m not going to negotiate with somebody who calls the border patrol agents a bunch of Nazis when you’re trying to defend the border against a mob.”

Graham continued, “The Democrats see our law enforcement officers as the problem. We see the illegal immigrants, the coyotes, and the drug dealers as the problem.”

The senator also shut down the Democrats’ calls to reopen the government temporarily while they negotiate longterm funding.

“I do want open the government, but the goal is not to open the government. The goal is to fix a broken immigration system,” said Graham.

Although many on both sides of the aisle want to see the government reopen, neither side seems willing to budge. President Trump told reporters that he would be willing to keep the partial shutdown going for “years” if the border is not secured as part of the deal.
