Graham Defends Liz Cheney: She Is ‘One of the Strongest and Most Reliable Conservative Voices’

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is coming to the defense of Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) after receiving harsh criticism for voting to impeach former President Donald Trump.

“I believe [Rep. Liz Cheney] is one of the strongest and most reliable conservative voices in the Republican Party. She is a fiscal and social conservative, and no one works harder to ensure that our military is well prepared.” Graham wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.

He continued, “Liz knows that a strong America is a safe America. She believes we must confront radical Islam and take the fight to them to ensure there are no more 9/11’s. In the eyes of many – Liz Cheney’s experience, leadership, and strength are invaluable to the Republican Party.”

In a statement, Cheney announced her plan to vote to impeach Trump last month and slammed him for his role in the riots at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, as IJR previously reported.

“The President of the United States summoned this mob, assembled the mob, and lit the flame of this attack. Everything that followed was his doing,” Cheney said.

She added, “None of this would have happened without the President. The President could have immediately and forcefully intervened to stop the violence. He did not. There has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution.”

After some Republicans demanded she be removed from her position, Cheney told reporters she had no plans on leaving, as IJR previously reported.

“I’m not going anywhere,” Cheney said.

The Wyoming Republican Party blasted Cheney for her vote.

“We as a Party respect our elected officials and assume that they will respect and represent their constituents. We are receiving the message loud and clear that what happened yesterday is a true travesty for Wyoming and the country,” the party said in a statement.

Responses

  1. Sen Graham, sorry but she voted for an illegal impeachment and went against her party. Cheney needs to go and maybe you too if you don’t think the GOP is entitled to its position.

  2. Really Cheney? That’s all conjecture. A Republican going against a Party Member? Tim for Cheney to stand down.

  3. No doubt that Ms cheney is a devote conservative BUT she went against what most conservatives want and that is supporting President Trump! The gop needs people like her like they need more RINOS! The Republican party has been well known for not sticking together like the democrats do and that is unacceptable! It is up to us conservative voters to use the up coming primaries to get these people out of office and replaced with people who support President Trump’s ideals and goals for America!

    1. So you are claiming that a RINO is a Republican that honors the oath to the U.S. Constitution, not a loyalty oath to Donald Trump? Interesting.
You also appear to be claiming Donald Trump is not accountable for his actions that are in direct violation of the oath of the office he held. That is disturbing.

    2. Robert, I am confused.

Honestly, do you know the difference between right and wrong? I am not sure that you do, so that is why I have to ask.

To support a politician, of ANY stripe, without question, is dangerous (for you, me, and this country), and that is what you are doing here. That makes YOU dangerous, Robert.

  4. Poor flip flop Graham. I bet his head is doing a 360. Kinda like the girl on The Exorcist!
