Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is coming to the defense of Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) after receiving harsh criticism for voting to impeach former President Donald Trump.

“I believe [Rep. Liz Cheney] is one of the strongest and most reliable conservative voices in the Republican Party. She is a fiscal and social conservative, and no one works harder to ensure that our military is well prepared.” Graham wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.

He continued, “Liz knows that a strong America is a safe America. She believes we must confront radical Islam and take the fight to them to ensure there are no more 9/11’s. In the eyes of many – Liz Cheney’s experience, leadership, and strength are invaluable to the Republican Party.”

In a statement, Cheney announced her plan to vote to impeach Trump last month and slammed him for his role in the riots at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, as IJR previously reported.

“The President of the United States summoned this mob, assembled the mob, and lit the flame of this attack. Everything that followed was his doing,” Cheney said.

She added, “None of this would have happened without the President. The President could have immediately and forcefully intervened to stop the violence. He did not. There has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution.”

After some Republicans demanded she be removed from her position, Cheney told reporters she had no plans on leaving, as IJR previously reported.

“I’m not going anywhere,” Cheney said.

The Wyoming Republican Party blasted Cheney for her vote.

“We as a Party respect our elected officials and assume that they will respect and represent their constituents. We are receiving the message loud and clear that what happened yesterday is a true travesty for Wyoming and the country,” the party said in a statement.
