When pro-Trump media personalities Diamond and Silk stated under oath that they were never paid by the Trump campaign, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) called them out on a discrepancy in their story.
“Ms. Hardaway, I think you stated on the record today, at least three times, quote, ‘We were not paid by the Trump campaign,'” Jeffries said. “Is that correct?”
When Lynnette Hardaway and Rochelle Richardson, known more commonly by their internet monickers of “Diamond and Silk,” affirmed that Jeffries’ recollection was correct, the congressman offered another question: “Are you aware that your testimony today is under oath subject to the penalty of perjury?”

When Hardaway and Richardson acknowledged that they had been sworn to tell the truth, Jeffries’ line of questioning intensified.
“Now the FEC report dated May 12, 2017, states that on November 22, 2016, the campaign of Donald J. Trump for President Inc. paid ‘Diamond & Silk’ $1,274.94 for field consulting,” Jeffries said. “Are you familiar with that?”
“We’re familiar with that particular lie,” Richardson shot back, dismissing the information Jeffries read from an official Federal Election Commission report filed by the Trump campaign as “fake news.”
Pressed further by the congressman, Hardaway and Richardson clarified that they were not calling the filing fake, but Jeffries wasn’t finished:
“You have an FEC document that clearly indicates that the two of you were paid for field consulting by the Trump campaign. That’s just one document, there may be others that I don’t have. And presumably, this was a document filed with genuiness and authenticity by the campaign of the president that you so love and so I’m just trying to figure out who is lying here. Is it the Trump campaign or is someone not telling the truth?”
Richardson contested that the discrepancy could be a simple mistake with how the expense was reported on the document, suggesting that the “field consulting” fee was actually a reimbursement from the Trump campaign for air travel costs that had been fronted by the duo.
