Dem Congressman Attempts Damage Control After Bashing Trump Supporters and Comparing POTUS to Hitler

Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) was the keynote speaker at Friendship Baptist Church in Atlanta on New Year’s Day and sounded off on President Donald Trump, comparing the president to Hitler while also slamming Trump’s supporters.

Johnson claimed the American people elected an “authoritarian, anti-immigrant, racist strongman” as president, adding the idea that Trump and his supporters are returning to “a time when white men and white privilege were unchallenged, and where minorities and women were in their place.”

Johnson delivered the speech at an NAACP event, which marks the 156th year of the Emancipation Proclamation.

“Donald Trump supporters are older, less educated, less prosperous, and they are dying early. Their lifespans are decreasing, and many are dying from alcoholism, drug overdoses, liver disease, or simply a broken heart caused by economic despair.”

The Democratic congressman then compared Trump to the “charismatic” Adolf Hitler, suggesting Hitler’s anti-Semitism was the same as the “rapists, drug dealers, and murderers” of immigrants trying to cross the southern border.

“Much like how Hitler took over the Nazi party, Trump has taken over the Republican Party,” Johnson said.

He continued to try to compare the president to Hitler:

“Hitler was accepting of violence toward the achievement of political objectives. Trump encouraged violence against protesters at his rallies, and his messaging about Charlottesville, that there were bad people on both sides, sent a powerful message of approval to the far right racists in America.”

Watch the video below:

The congressman tried to defend his Hitler-Trump remarks, telling the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

“I wanted to make the point that our democracy is under severe threat, that freedom is threatened, and that if we are not vigilant we can allow tyranny to set in. I made the point that this threat to democracy is a trend across the world, and we can’t let this happen in our country.”

Johnson’s odd and controversial remarks aren’t new, as he’s previously compared Israeli settlers in Palestine to “termites” and once shared his concern over the “very small island” of Guam, claiming he feared the land mass would “become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize.”

What people in their right mind elect these type of persons, my goodness, he surely is not good for America. Sicko who doesn’t know their history or that too much weight on an island will make it tip over.

People so dumb they think islands float and too many people will cause an island to tip over like an overloaded boat shouldn’t comment about other people being less educated.

Try harder Hank. You’ve sold out to the party that enslaved your people, supported segregation, the KKK, and Jim Crow. Notice the historically low rates of black unemployment? Probably not. Malcolm X was right, “, the history of the white liberal has been nothing but a series of trickery designed… Read more »

Maybe Hank should look in a mirror and at his own party. Who voted against the 1st amendment (Dim senators 2014) What party does Teddy Lieu, who wants to regulate speech, belong to? (Dim-CA). Which party did EVERY slave owner belong to? Who ALWAYS opposes the 2nd Amendment? Who voted… Read more »

He also said this: “Donald Trump and his Make America Great Again followers…are older, less educated, less prosperous, and they are dying early. Their life spans are decreasing, and many are dying from alcoholism, drug overdoses, liver disease, or simply a broken heart.” Hmmm. So he’s basically calling us ignorant… Read more »
