Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is set to return to New Hampshire next month, a state that has long held the first presidential primary. But her visit isn’t a sign she’s considering another run.

Clinton said in an interview last month that she has no plans to run in 2028, adding that Democrats already have a strong bench of potential candidates.

Instead, she’ll headline the New Hampshire Democratic Party’s annual spring fundraising dinner. The event, known as the McIntyre-Shaheen 100 Club Dinner, is scheduled for April 25 in Nashua.

State party chair Ray Buckley praised Clinton’s decades of public service, pointing to her work as first lady, U.S. senator, and secretary of state. He also said she will help honor retiring Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, who has spent 40 years in public office and was the first woman elected both governor and U.S. senator.

We’re thrilled to announce Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton will be headlining the 2026 McIntyre-Shaheen 100 Club Dinner!

A spokesperson said Clinton is looking forward to returning to the state.

Not everyone is enthusiastic about the visit. One longtime progressive figure in New Hampshire, speaking anonymously, said the move reflects a party that hasn’t fully embraced change. The person argued Clinton no longer represents what’s needed to build a new Democratic majority in the state.

Clinton has a long history in New Hampshire politics. She won the state’s Democratic primary in 2008 during her race against Barack Obama, but lost it in 2016 to Bernie Sanders during her second presidential campaign.

Since her loss to Donald Trump in the 2016 general election, she has returned to New Hampshire a handful of times, including for a book tour stop in 2017 and a speaking appearance at Dartmouth College in 2019.

Despite some criticism, Clinton still has strong support among many Democrats in the state. Lucas Meyer, a nonprofit leader and former president of the New Hampshire Young Democrats, said she remains well-liked and can help draw donors.

He noted that the dinner is focused on funding party operations ahead of upcoming campaigns, and that Clinton’s presence — especially since she’s not a candidate — gives her broader appeal as a fundraiser.
