Hillary Clinton Takes Jab at $250 Bill Featuring Trump

US Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent shows a proposed $250 bill featuring President Donald Trump during a press briefing in the Brady Briefing Room of the White House in Washington, DC, on May 28, 2026. President Donald Trump could soon appear on a new $250 bill, in the Republican's latest move to shatter US traditions by putting his personal stamp on national institutions. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton weighed in on the possibility of the $250 bill featuring the likeness of President Donald Trump.

The Trump administration is repotedly pushing for that to happen.

The Washington Post reported Thursday the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, charged with printing U.S. currency, had been pushed by Trump administration officials to create a bill worth $250 with Trump’s portrait.

Four current and ex-employees told the outlet.

Clinton, Trump’s former rival in the 2016 presidential election, mocked the report in a Thursday post on X.

“By the end of Trump’s term, it’ll be just enough to buy one gallon of gas and a carton of eggs,” Clinton posted, referencing the reported $250 worth of the bill.

Two Treasury Department political appointees pushed Bureau of Engraving and Printing employees to create prototypes of the bill beginning last year, the employees said, per the Post.

In March, the Treasury Department announced it would add Trump’s signature to paper currency to commemorate the U.S.’s 250th birthday.

This would mark the first time a sitting president’s signature would appear on currency.

“There is no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country and President Donald J. Trump than U.S. dollar bills bearing his name, and it is only appropriate that this historic currency be issued at the Semiquincentennial,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said previously.
