Republicans on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence demanded that the committee chairman Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) resign from his post, with Rep. Michael Conaway (R-Texas) declaring during a Thursday hearing that committee Republicans “have no faith in [his] ability to discharge [his] duties.”
During a hearing regarding Russian election interference tactics, Conaway — a top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee — called for the resignation of committee chairman Schiff for his repeated claims of collusion between the Trump presidential campaign and Russia both during and in the days following the conclusion of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.
The Texas Republican torched Schiff as having “been at the center of a well-orchestrated media campaign claiming, among other things, the Trump campaign colluded with the Russian government.”
He went on to cite the “thorough investigation” into “Russian efforts to interfere in our elections” that also looked into the “allegations that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia,” in which “the committee found no evidence.”

Conaway also pointed out that “the Minority views” that Schiff submitted “did not provide any evidence to support the claim of collusion.”
The Republican congressman continued on to bring up the findings from Mueller’s investigation into the alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, which found that the president did not collude with the Kremlin during the 2016 presidential race.
“Special counsel Mueller’s findings are consistent with those of the committee,” Conaway added. “As well as the public statements of various senators on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.”
Conaway then slammed the California Democrat:
“Despite these findings, you continue to proclaim to the media that there is ‘significant evidence of collusion.’ You further have stated you will ‘continue to investigate the counterintelligence issues. That is, is the president or people around him compromised in any way by a hostile foreign power?'”
The high-ranking House Intelligence Republican stated that Schiff’s “willingness to continue to promote a demonstrably false narrative [was] alarming” and that Mueller’s findings “conclusively refute” Schiff’s claims.
Conaway finished up with a haymaker, saying that the California Democrat had “damaged the integrity” of the House Intelligence Committee before calling for his “immediate resignation.”
“We have no faith in your ability to discharge your duties … and urge your immediate resignation as chairman of the committee,” the Texas Republican fired off.
As IJR Blue reported, Schiff rebutted his committee colleague, listing allegations against the president like Jared Kushner wanting to set up a “secret back channel” with the Russians and the infamous Trump Tower meeting.

Conaway submitted a letter to the committee formally demanding Schiff’s resignation that was signed by every Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, including the ranking member Devin Nunes (R-Calif.).
