Fox News took a rare step to publicly condemn one of its star hosts after Jeanine Pirro suggested on her show this week that Rep. Ilhan Omar isn’t loyal to the Constitution because she wears a hijab.
“Think about it: Omar wears a hijab,” Pirro said Saturday on her show “Justice.”
“Is her adherence to this Islamic doctrine indicative of her adherence to Sharia law, which in itself is antithetical to the United States Constitution?”

The clip of Pirro’s remarks quickly circulated Twitter and brought criticism from the left and right and Pirro’s own network.
“We strongly condemn Jeanine Pirro’s comments about Rep. Ilhan Omar,” Fox News said in a statement Sunday obtained by CNN. “They do not reflect those of the network and we have addressed the matter with her directly.”
The Minnesota representative, who is one of the first Muslim women in Congress and is the first and only hijab-wearing member of Congress, thanked the news network for speaking out.
“Thank you @FoxNews,” Omar tweeted Monday. “No one’s commitment to our constitution should be questioned because of their faith or country of birth.”

Fox News released the statement hours after one of the producers of the network’s “Special Report with Bret Baier” called out Pirro.
“Can you stop spreading this false narrative that somehow Muslims hate America or women who wear a hijab aren’t American enough?” Hufsa Kamal tweeted Sunday.
“You have Muslims working at the same network you do, including myself.”

Pirro’s comments were part of an over nine-minute opening statement on Omar and how Pirro believes anti-semitism is returning to the Democratic party.
Omar is currently under fire for criticizing the United States’ support of Israel and making statements about the middle eastern country that some have found to perpetrate anti-semantic tropes.

President Trump was right when he said the democrat party is now the anti-Israel party. Don’t forget Nancy, history has proven over and over when you appease to anti-Semitic sentiment, the worst happens. #OpeningStatement pic.twitter.com/vrnzhcu95o
