Iran Will Bypass U.S. Sanctions or Overcome Them Through Talks: Rouhani

Iran will overcome U.S. sanctions by either bypassing them or through negotiations, and it will not cross its red lines in any talks with arch-adversary Washington, President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday.

Tensions have soared between Tehran and Washington since last year, when President Donald Trump pulled the United States out of Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal with six powers and reimposed sanctions on Tehran that have crippled its oil-based economy.

The Islamic Republic has rejected negotiating a new deal with the Trump administration, saying talks are only possible if Washington returns to the nuclear pact and lifts sanctions.

“The government is determined to defeat (the enemy) by bypassing America’s sanctions…or through various means including talks, but we will not cross our red lines,” the semi-official Iranian news agency ISNA quoted Rouhani as saying.

In a rare act of cooperation between Tehran and Washington, the United States and Iran each freed a prisoner on Saturday.

Washington said it was hopeful that the prisoner swap would lead to the release of other Americans held in Iran and that it was a sign Tehran was willing to discuss other issues.

Iran released Xiyue Wang, a U.S. citizen who had been held for three years on spying charges, while the United States freed Iranian Massoud Soleimani, who had faced charges of violating U.S. sanctions against Tehran.

Iran said on Monday there were about 20 Iranians jailed in the United States in cases linked to sanctions violations.

Not YOU, apparently. What do YOU care, right? What a coward.

Try selling THAT to the victim’s family!

  2. Enough already damnit you don’t sit around and let little insects like Iran sting you and not respond by smashing said insect. Russia and China could say what they want but they wouldn’t actually do a damn thing about it. Russia might even be behind it if it resulted in them getting some more oil the world’s currency. Long story short you don’t allow little nobody nations to insult you and get away with doing actual harm to you ever period it’s a sign of weakness. As the top dog you don’t and can’t allow weakness or another will jump at your throat to tear it out and take your place. I wish the world could resolve it’s issues peacefully but most people especially Muslims can not be merely spoken to and reasoned with.

  3. Karin, below, is confusing vindictiveness, callousness, and irrationality with logic. Do YOU know where our prisoners are kept? Maybe in the city you want to bomb? You are so logical.

Nuking any city today would also have far reaching ramifications that she is not considering. The U.S. would become the world’s pariah, way more than we are today. The cost of us doing that would be unimaginable.

    Don’t be confused like Karin.

  4. Iran is even worse than China and NoKo. They have some Americans in their prisons and they want theirs with no ramifications. Well even though I do not want war and I do not want to see millions of people die, I say turn Iran’s capital into a glass parking lot. No Notice, No Leaks, No leeway. Give them one opportunity to give us our people, and we will swap 1 for 1. No other options. Yes or No? Their answer will determine what the outcome will be.
