Mattis Drops Epic Line During Naval War College Grad Speech: ‘If This Was Vodka, It’d Be a Lot Better Speech’

Secretary of Defense James Mattis is known for his badass one-liners and motivating quotes. The speech he gave to the graduating class at the Naval War College was no exception.

During his speech, Mattis had trouble clearing his throat.

“That’s what you get when you testify too often in front of Congress, by the way,” he said.

After continuing on for a bit, an official brought Mattis a water bottle.

“If this was vodka, it’d be a lot better speech,” he said before taking a sip.

“But I’m not supposed to glamorize alcohol anymore. So young folks, you ignore what I just said,” Mattis added.

Since becoming the secretary of defense, Mattis has added to his list of one-liners.

At the start of his interview with “Uncommon Knowledge” in May, he jokingly told the audience they misunderstood the situation.

“None of you understand. I’m not locked up in here with you. You’re locked up in here with me,” he told them.
